Why? Why do you think it's normal to carry guns when you have no reasonable expectation of using them? That seems to me not only foolish but in a situation like this entirely thuggish . Explain to me what message you think 40 armed people standing around outside a restaurant sends? I can't think of one peaceful message, but maybe you have some wisdom to impart?

When there is a rally or protest regarding a right people often exercise that right during the protest.

That would make pro-choice protests pretty gruesome...

I can't think of anything more reckless than carrying a firearm into a place where you have no reasonable expectation of using it. Perhaps you can point out something equally reckless that unarmed citizens in restaurants are doing?

Going back to what I said before, its only reckless if the firearms are being handled in a reckless manner.

That would make pro-choice protests pretty gruesome...

I had to lol at this.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

He did protest the Indian Firearms Act which was a blanket ban to minimize possible insurgencies against the Crown.

And yet the insurgency was successful. In his lifetime.

as it does for pro life protests.

I think she meant that people would be aborting in the car park... ;-) Edited by Martin Wellbourne

That is indeed what I meant.

I am as pro gun rights as they come, but think what they did was stupid.

I am also not a big fan of open carry. I support the right, just not the concept. I think tactically it's a poor decision

I am a big fan of concealed carry.

So what? This is about standing around armed and what message that sends. I have yet to see anyone explain how being armed can be construed as a non-aggressive, non threatening act, but I await your explanation with anticipation.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

If the legal definition of something does not matter and therefore, by extension, the law itself, what does matter? huh.png

Oh Jesus. It's really not that hard to grasp.

It's about the appearance of the act, the intent of the people behind it and the effect that would likely have on the people in the restaurant.

It has nothing to do with the law - that is completely and totally irrelevant. Why is it irrelevant? Because there's a fundamental difference between an immoral act and an illegal one.

What the idiots with guns did was neither immoral or illegal. It was senseless, ill thought out and misplaced, nothing more. The hyperbole surrounding this incident is unbelievable.

Being an idiot is not usually a crime, in and of itself. The outcome of their actions should make the anti-gun crowd happy anyway. <_<

It was breathtakingly stupid certainly. Who voices disagreement by brandishing a gun?what happened to reasoned debate?

If we agree on that whats the point of quibbling about the law in this case? What does it have to do with anything?

Because in this case, the law protects their right to be stupid.

What about the rights of the people in the restaurant to not to be intimidated for exercising their first amendment rights?

The NRA are apparently silent on this (I haven't fact checked this bit). Do you think that's right or wrong?
