Hi everyone,

I won a 'green card' in the most recent Diversity Visa Lottery!! :)

I have completed the interview and I am moving to the USA in April 2014.

My fiancé (together 6.5 years and engaged since April 2012) had intended on following me over to the USA via a H1-B visa, if she was able to obtain one.

We are now looking into the possibility of her coming over on the back of my green card. If we married before I entered the US to 'activate' my green card, would that give us any options?! A lawyer suggested I phone the US embassy in Dublin and ask whether she could be issued a visa on the strength of my visa?! He said it is unlikely but worth a shot.

Thanks in advance!!

Marrying before the interview would have been the option.

A quick trip to activate your GC and of course a wedding will allow you to start the process as a LPR.

You can petition a wife as a green card holder. The wait for a visa number is currently almost non existent but a year ago people were waiting 2 years. You will have to show that you have enough income to support her.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

It's too late for her to come at the same time as you as your interview happend and your visa was issued.

As the others have said, marry and then petition her when you have your greencard- it will take about a year for her to get her visa.
