And I don't recall ever making a post here or a statement in real life that I thought could be a hero due to intervention with one of my firearms. I know it's a difficult concept for some of you to grasp, but there are sane, responsible gun owners whose lives don't revolve around guns. I understand your frustration.

Just like it's apparently difficult for some here to grasp that just because people want stricter gun control regulations, it doesn't mean they want to take away the guns from the sane, responsible owners whose lives don't revolve around guns.

Yet every time someone uses their gun for its intended purpose (usually self defense), the story gets posted here with a "see?! Why do you want to take away this man's gun?!?!"

When nobody really does.

The actual opinions of both sides gets so overblown here that it's insane. Most people are arguing against statements and viewpoints that nobody here even has!

you know you got people here that are very vocal that guns should be banned. The problem is it always starts with stupidity like wanting to ban assault looking weapons that are almost zero percent of the problem and limiting magazine capacities. Again almost none of the problem.

It's no coincidence that the places in America with the most gun control have the most crime and Vice versa

You can do much better than that. This story wasn't hearsay, it was true. Gun saved woman's life.

Right, like I can't find a million stories where a gun killed an innocent victim. It's all about numbers at the end of the day. How many people were shot today while not abducting a kid?

he family of a kidnapped Louisiana mother tracked down and killed the father of her child in the abandoned house where he was allegedly holding her prisoner, authorities said.

Bethany Arceneaux, 29, of Duson, La., was abducted in the parking lot of a daycare where she was picking up her 2-year-old at approximately 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Department Captain Kip Judice told ABCNews.com.

Witnesses saw the suspect, Scott Thomas, allegedly force Arceneaux into his white Buick LeSabre, before driving off, Lafayette Police Department spokesman Paul Mouton told ABCNews.com.

Thomas, 29, of Leonville, La., is the father of Arceneaux's child, Judice said. The woman had a restraining order against Thomas, but Judice said he did not know when it was filed.

The child was left behind in the woman's car, and was later taken into custody by the woman's mother, Mouton said.

Later that evening, law enforcement officials found Thomas' car near an abandoned sugarcane field in a rural area of Lafayette Parish, La., Judice said.

One of Arceneaux's shoes was found in the car, while the other had been left in the parking lot of the daycare where she had been last seen.

Authorities searched the sugarcane field Wednesday night and all day Thursday, but to no avail, Judice said. The cane towers as high as eight feet tall and was "a brutal search area" for officials, he said.

It wasn't until Friday morning, when Arceneaux's family members conducted their own search in the same area that they came upon a secluded, abandoned house behind a cluster of trees.

The house was directly across the street from the field where Thomas abandoned his car, but only the home's roof was visible from the road, Judice said.

"[The family] converged on a piece of property about a mile from where the car was found," Judice said. "One of the family members heard what he thought was a scream."

Arceneaux's cousin approached the home, kicked in the door in and entered, Judice said. Inside, he found Thomas with the woman. Thomas then began stabbing Arceneaux, and a confrontation ensued.

"The cousin, who was armed, began firing several shots at Thomas," Judice said. "After a couple of shots, [Arceneaux] was able to get free of him and they escorted her out of the house."

Arcenaux suffered several stab wounds and was taken by ambulance to Lafayette General Medical Center, where she is in stable condition, Judice said. It is not known if Arceneaux had been stabbed before her cousin found her inside the home, officials said.

Meanwhile, officers who heard the gun shots fired surrounded the home, Judice said. Upon entering, they found Thomas' lifeless body on the ground. He had sustained several gunshot wounds.

Thomas' cause of death is not known, Judice said. An autopsy on the body will be conducted by Lafayette Parish Coroner Ken Odinet, but it is not known when it will take place.

ABC News' attempts to reach Odinet were not immediately successful.

Thomas did not own the abandoned home, Judice said. At this point, there is no known connection between Thomas and the property's owners.

Arceneaux told investigators that the home was the only place she remembers being held hostage, Judice said. She said she had not eaten or drunk anything since her abduction on Wednesday.

No charges have been filed against the man who shot Thomas, and it is unlikely that the man will be charged, Judice said.

"In the state of Louisiana, you have a right to protect yourself and others from imminent bodily harm," he said. "We believe at this point, based on evidence and statements collected, that this guy was acting in defense of Ms. Arceneaux and thus, was within the state law."

ABC News' attempts to reach Arceneaux's family were not immediately successful.

Chirp Chirp. Yup bad people do bad things. Not one of these people were injured by a gun, the were injured by a person who used a gun illegally.

Lots of people out there with guns doing bad. I freely admit that. So the answer is disarm the ones who obey the law?

Hardly seems logical

Wow! There will be crickets in this topic from that post on. Great post GrandD

Hardly

How many of the people shot in G&D's post were shot by their own guns used against them by an attacker? That is the claim many here repeat over and over: if you own a gun it will be more likely used against you than by you. We already know that about 10,000 people per year are murdered by guns and we know that people are shot everyday. You're comparing apples to pumpkins.

Where are all of the incidents were an attacker takes the legal gun owners gun and shoots him or someone in his family? Many of you make this claim over and over. Prove it.

It isn't a good post. It is not relevant to the topic at hand.

Then say the gun didn't have anything to do with the article you posted. Say it was just good people helping other people.

The whole point of this point was, look at what good can be done with guns. I showed the bad. Its relevant.

You posted links about innocent, unarmed people getting shot by bad guys with guns. Unfortunately this happens multiple times per day. Every time a story is posted about a legal gun owner using their gun to stop a crime, the usual suspects chime in saying that in most cases the legal gun owner ends up getting shot with his own gun, or a family member or whoever. The same people say that legal gun owners rarely prevent a crime using their gun. They repeat ad nauseam how in most cases the gun is used against the owner or his family. They state it as fact. They state that this happens far more often than the gun being used against a criminal. We all know that there are no statistics for this.

And when that fails, they play the suicide card saying that the suicide rate is high because of guns. Of course they neglect the fact that their are several countries with extremely strict gun control that have much higher suicide rates than the US. And let's not forget Brazil, which has the most gun murders in the world, yet one of the lowest suicide rates. But naturally these examples will be dismissed since guns are the cause of everything evil.

Well, I can hardly defend what others say about causes. There's only two ways to eliminate gun deaths. Eliminate all guns or people's want to use them. I don't believe either can be accomplished but based on our elementary understanding of the complexities of the human mind, your best bang for the buck is reducing guns.

You reduce the guns in circulation and you will reduce the amount of people being killed by guns.

You'll never be able to eliminate all guns, or even make a dent in the number in circulation. If they stop selling guns tomorrow there are enough in this country to last for a thousand years or so. You're never going to take them away from people by force.

There are mental health issues at play in all of this gun violence. Suicide is a mental health issue, not a gun issue. Mass murders have mental issues. People who shoot someone because they got cut off driving home have mental issues. Society has lots of problems, the gun is a tool, not the problem. They problem lies with what's between the ears. Or the lack thereof. IMO.

When you and I become co-consoles, I'll be ok with limiting gun production and beefed up buy back programs and you can introduce spending hikes in mental illness research and treatment. Granted I would venture that most of the deaths caused by "bad guys" are not traditional mental cases. Probably more people settling scores for one reason or another.
