Quite a few here keep posting that anyone who keeps a gun in the house is more likely to have the gun used against them or their family vs using it against an attacker. Everyday someone posts a story about a legitimate gun owner using their weapon to defend themselves or others against an aggressor, yet the anti-gun members never post an article where a criminal used the persons gun against them.

This comes terribly close to admitting that these posts regarding guns being used successfully by private citizens to stop a crime are supposed to prove that guns are particularly useful for that purpose. Of course individual stories, however often they are posted can't do that. Do carry on with the specious attempts though!

Your reply was so well thought out in the above post about the murder of a mother and the rape of a 9 year old in a parking lot.......

The librarian was denied a concealed weapons permit? If she had one she would have been armed picking her daughter up from gymnastics class? If she was armed the only way that this horrible incident went down was the librarian shooting this a$$ hole?

Very sad story but the fact is that there is no way to know if there would have been any different outcome, armed victim or not. In fact the chances that the alternate tragic story would more likely have been the little girl getting a hold of the gun and accidentally shooting herself or the librarian or vice versa, is probably statistically more likely, however remote the tragedy that did happen and the other tragedy are likely to be.

If more citizens were armed, criminals would think twice about attacking them, Detroit Police Chief James Craig

Florida currently has more concealed-carry permit holders than any other state, with 1,269,021 issued as of May 14, 2014

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

This is why as a general rule I don't ascribe to the "liberal" trend of controlling gun ownership to the point where even law abiding, responsible citizens can't own firearms or protect themselves.

I haven't seen a single person suggest this. Ever.

Please post a few stories of your own to prove otherwise since you're so sure of yourself. Better yet, why not post some stats from the FBI? Show me the stats proving guns are not useful in stopping crime. What if it was a member of your family that was saved by a gun? I suppose that would be ok?

One time I heard a car being driven by a serial rapist got hit by a train. You see, the crossing didn't have any lights or those arms that block the crossing. So the guy just drove through without stopping and the train hit him and killed him. That's why I'm for getting rid of lights at rail road crossings.

You can do much better than that. This story wasn't hearsay, it was true. Gun saved woman's life.

Nope. But "getting rid of guns for everyone, even law abiding citizens and not giving them the right to defend themselves and their property" sure isn't a "liberal idea" ... not one voiced by anyone of significance, anyway.

I don't know why, when people talk about wanting stricter gun control, some people hear "no guns for anyone"..

Guns are very useful for that purpose, say as opposed to paperweights or greeting cards.

If personal anecdotes are all you need to prove anything then my personal experience proves incontrovertably that guns more often injure the owners of said guns or their own relatives.

I have only known two people who were shot. One shot himself while cleaning his gun. Barely missing his own roommate and another friend of mine.

The second was shot cleanly through both knees by his older brother by accident.

There you go. Two gun accident injuries to match the story in the OP. I have proved by virtue of anecdotal personal experience my point. I know of no one who has ever successfully stopped a crime with a gun, further proving my point.

Let's stop pretending you are dumb and deal with the reality that while you may possess a gun or many guns for that matter, and never have a bad experience by virtue of your choice, you are even less likely to become the gun toting hero of the types in these frequent OP's, rushing in to become the hero.

Not really but hey at least you avoided one of your inane letter posts! Cudos!

Your two incidents are gun accidents due to carelessness and negligence on the part of gun owners, not a a criminal using the victims gun against them. So you've proved nothing, which we both know you can't prove because there are no statistics to support your claims.

And I don't recall ever making a post here or a statement in real life that I thought could be a hero due to intervention with one of my firearms. I know it's a difficult concept for some of you to grasp, but there are sane, responsible gun owners whose lives don't revolve around guns. I understand your frustration.

I didn't say anything resembling that. Nor will I be doing the research for you or spooky. Guns mostly do nothing but cost money and increase risk. If gun aficionados find a story such as the OP they latch on to it as justification for their own personal gun ownership. Silly. Like making a complete fabrication of my post to provide yourself with more misbegotten comfort.

You can do all the research you won't, there are no official statistics to prove your point.
