Hi

I'm an Au Pair from Switzerland living in NYC. I'm here with a J1 Visa. I started my Au Pair year in january 2012, and after I extended my status for another year. So basically I am here with an extended status which expires in january 2014 and I still have 30 days time to leave the country.

I am going to sign for a language school in the city which starts in mid january 2014. The school told me, that it is not a problem to change my status. I just should keep in my mind, that I can't leave the country after changing the status, and if I do, I can't come back till I get a new visa. And for the new visa I can apply the earliest after 6 months. I am not sure, if that is correct, specially since I heard and read different stories about ppl with my case. going back home and make a new visa is not an issue, I am just worried, cause if everybody who has an extended status has to stay 6months outside the country to get a new visa, I also have to wait 6 months, cause my J1 was extended... pleeeaaasseee help me... I am so confused..
