dear forum members,

I am a Canadian citizen; I live in Toronto, Canada.

I received the sealed Immigrant Visa packet and my passport with the permanent resident visa. The expiration is April 2014; I won't be able to move permanently to the US before then.

My plan is to enter the US for a one day visit to Niagara Falls, NY sometime next month.

My plan is to go from Toronto to Niagara Falls, NY by train (VIA Rail) and come back to Toronto on the same day.

Has anyone travelled through this route? Can you please share your experience?

Will there be U.S. Immigration Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) officer at the border? would there be a USCIS Officer to give him/her the Visa packet? would an ADIT stamp be placed on my passport?

Thank you for any feedback you have.

What kind of visa are you traveling on?

Depending on your visa, you may not be able to re-enter the United States if you return to Canada.

Well entry anywhere anyhow to the US will activate the LPR status

once your packet is turned in & U go thru the motions with CBP. As

a Canadian citizen & LPR in US U can come and go to both countries

as U please , you just have to enter with your packet before 6 mths. is

up after you received it from US embassy there. So yes U can do that.

VIA rail does not enter the US so I guess U will be transferring to Amtrak

if travelling further away from Niagara...They do have shopping buses too

that comes over to our side, its stops and passengers goes into CBP

lounge to be processed. The buses depart Mississaga & Toronto (Yorkdale)

Thank you for your reply.

This is an approximate schedule:

Train Sorted by:

Departure

Arrival

08:20 AM 12:24 PM 4 hrs 4 m 97 08:20 AM 10:20 AM TORONTO - CANADA-US BORDER/FRONTIÈRE traininfo.png VIARail_Sm_logo.gif connection

2 hrs 3 m 464 12:23 PM 12:24 PM CANADA-US BORDER/FRONTIÈRE - NIAGARA FALLS traininfo.png

btn_selectcontine.en.png Warning_XS.png- Operated by: Amtrak.

So, I would transfer to transer, but only for 1 minute to cross the border?

Smeone from USCIS would be at the Niagara Falls, NY Amtrak station to process this?

There is CBP at all borders, however I don't think

1 minute layover would be enough, seemingly

upon Amtrak crossing over You will have agents

stationed somewhere that does processing. Have

ypu called Amtrak 800 # to enquire?, U should, I

have done the bus shopping trips, or planes, but never

the train, your schedule seem tight...just find out

where U will process, then U are free to go back & forth
