My husband and I just got married. I am the U.S. citizen, and I want to take my husband's last name. We are almost about to file the I-485 for residency, and it asks for his spouse's full name. I have not changed my name yet. Should I put down my married name (what I will be changing it to) or my maiden name? Also, where do I go to change my last name? Social security? Our marriage license only shows our names before marriage, not after.

You just start using your new name and start collecting IDs in your new name. SSA is a place to start; renew your DL, passport, etc. But for now you can just put the new name on your AOS paperwork. No sweat.

8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!
