White candidate pretends to be black to win election

This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of.

Sooooooo, if the guy was actually black they are racist for voting for the black guy? Really?

We know how Gary and Ala feels about black people so I understand the anger behind this person's post. I am surprised that VJ constantly lets racist posts about black people continue and they NEVER stop them but if a black person comments back then we are sent a warning because we are constantly on here defending ourselves against racist who constantly spread their racism like the black plague.

Both candidates were considered "BLACK" at the time, how could it have been racist to choose the "BLACK" person if they were both "BLACK?"

The ignorance of this post and the news is beyond me. This is why America is sinking to hell!

These voters do not seem to be the sharpest knives in the drawer, true. Certainly they seemed to respond to the guy who pretended to be black at least in part because of the misleading images in his pamphlet - he appeared to represent their community and to be endorsed by a former state rep who was well-respected in their community.

But this does not mean they're racist.

So anyway these voters are angry that they fell for the trick, and not at themselves for being stupid. And the guy who got elected by using tactics like this is not even ashamed of himself. What a mess.

People vote for people based off of how they feel they can help their community.

Both candidates were black. So are you saying they voted for the "blacker" person? No, they voted for the person who they felt would pay attention to their needs.

Now if one candidate was white and one was black, maybe we can say they were racist.

meanwhile, back at post #1..

Gary - Thanks for posting this. I've been tired (as well as thousands of others) of the problems with that school board - replacing an incumbent with 26 years of crappy performance and questionable ethics is a great thing, regardless of the tactics used to win the seat.

Janelle, never be surprised at what VJ allows or doesn't allow. There's no point or logic behind it.

Racism here is perfectly acceptable - as long as the racist remark isn't made TO one of the members here. It's hilariously bizarre.

Er... no... I said it's not an example of voters being racist.

I'm noticing.

I am really starting to not like VJ. It is constantly acceptable to black bash on here.

It is funny that this is a website that is supposed to be promoting the bringing together of cultures as long as it is not a black person heaven forbids someone finds us as acceptable people to marry.

So lets start racist posts so that we can spread the hate of blacks to immigrants before they arrive.

Not only do we have racist in the U.S. we are going to import them as well as if our freaking life isn't hard enough as it is?

Too bad I am starting to believe that God doesn't care about black people. Before I would say that people who's hearts are filled full of hate will burn in hell, but now I am thinking God will just give them a pass on their hatred because it is against black people so it won't count.

These voters were mostly just stupid, in my estimation. But the idea that someone who looks like them would somehow serve their interests more is absurd. Look at Obama. He serves Wall Street, not Main Street. Most voters are stupid though, color or age has little to do with it. We busy ourselves with rather inane social issues [as directed] while serious problems [particularly economic and social justice] fester.

The funny thing about racism is how it has morphed into denialism of social inequity, which I guess is somehow more acceptable. People say poor people aren't poor because they are black or minority and lack equal opportunities, they are poor because they are lazy and don't want those opportunities. I mean look at all the opportunities poor urban or rural blacks get - shitty schools, decaying infrastructure, gang violence, broken family lives, little to no job availability. Why can't they just get off their asses, ace the SATs and get into Harvard? That's a fairy tale right there. I'd LOVE to see how the "welfare momma" bashers would fare if they were born into the same set of circumstances. Inter-economic class mobility stagnated a long time ago, and now more and more middle class folk find themselves among the working poor and the poor. A great majority of the jobs created since the recession began are part time with no benefits. Living wage jobs are getting harder and harder to obtain. How is the middle class supposed to rebuild itself on minimum wage? Answer: It doesn't. Welcome to the dawning new age of serfdom.

so, if the incumbent is complaining that the voters voted for the other fella because they thought he was black, who's fault is that ?

I seem to remember another election 4 or 5 years back in Houston, with the exact same problem,

so it's possible the opponent had the exact same campaign manager, or at least contracted out to the same direct marketing company.

The incumbent lost by 26 votes, and is screaming for a recount. If'n you read the article, you'll see the recount will yield the same numbers...

Of course, but if you look at how he promoted himself outside of pretending like he is black, you would see he promoted himself as someone who would care about them and help them make a difference and to many people this is important.

I knew better with Obama he didn't get my vote the second time around, but some people just don't know better.

On your second paragraph, I am a black person who grew up poor. I went to college, have a bachelors, cert to teach English, speak 3 languages and I am still bashed. What is the excuse for people still bashing me?

I'm BLACK!!!!!! People can say blacks need to get up, go to school get educated all day long, but people will still be unwilling to treat us as the educated people we are, we are still getting treated poorly.

I agree with you 100% the same people who are bashing would never be able to over come this same system if they were put into it.

It was two technically two black candidates not one.

People voted for Obama because he is half white. Does that make them racist or did that make them feel he could still relate to them because he is half white? I have heard many people say he is half white and he didn't have the typical black male mentality or childhood since he grew up white which made him more acceptable.

Your upward mobility is not the majority experience, however. But it's true, even after beating all the odds, people can still look down on you because of hardwired perceptions and stereotypes. A friend of mine works for his dad's company and recently was looking for an assistant. He was perusing through the resumes with his dad and they chose the top few contenders to interview. His dad proceeds to look these people up on the internet and pulls one of the top resumes off the pile and throws it back into the bin of rejects. My friend asked him why he did that, and his dad said - I kid you not - "She looks like an angry black woman. You'd live to regret hiring her" and showed him her photo online. Now, my friend knows his dad is a grade A a**hole, and a discrimination suit waiting to happen. So my friend hired her both because she was one of the most qualified, and because he loves sticking it to his dad.

Just being silly....FD... IMO...was projecting & setting an unfair standard on Americans. He's a Brit. & No...that's not a racist comment coz he really is a brit and being a brit isn't a bad thing like being a Kenyan..is. Brit = good. Kenyan = bad...or so I've been told. I don't really think it's true...the Kenyans being bad part...but apparently... if you call some1 a Kenyan on VJ...that's a racist insult...poor Kenyans...so many VJs putting them down...sigh...But...I'm trying to be a VJ team player. wink.png Anyway...FD seems to think 200 years is too long = America should have already had several Queens & more than one - half white - for a POTUS. ...So I gave him a little poke coz I disagree....did that make sense wacko.png ?

I think this is intended to be a rather droll and biting putdown. mellow.png

I googled that word - "droll" - the definition..&.. unsure.png ...thanks! smile.png
