Hi,

As a new LPR, I would need longer time to plan for my relocation to US from Asia. I'm planning to apply for re-entry permit in Guam (closest US territory from Asia).

My questions as follows :

1. Can I get Re-entry Permit done in Guam?

2. How long do I have to stay in Guam to get biometrics done?

3. Is biometrics appointment notice send by post?

4. Can an appointment notice to be sent via email?

5. My last recorded local address was in Indiana, can I use a Postal Box as my corresponding address with USCIS?

6. Can I travel out from Guam after application and come back for the biometrics appointment?

7. Can I request the Re-entry Permit to be sent to US Consular office of my home country?

Thank you!

Hi,
As a new LPR, I would need longer time to plan for my relocation to US from Asia. I'm planning to apply for re-entry permit in Guam (closest US territory from Asia).
My questions as follows :
1. Can I get Re-entry Permit done in Guam? Only if that is your place of residency
2. How long do I have to stay in Guam to get biometrics done? Bio takes less than 1/2 hour and is some cases you can do a walk-in after receiving the appointment letter from the USCIS
3. Is biometrics appointment notice send by post? YES
4. Can an appointment notice to be sent via email? I do not know of any. I think they send it via the USPS to verify that you actually live at the address you put on the application--or at least went to the trouble of having someone forward your mail.
5. My last recorded local address was in Indiana, can I use a Postal Box as my corresponding address with USCIS? No you must supply a physical address.
6. Can I travel out from Guam after application and come back for the biometrics appointment? As a LPR you can travel to and from the US as long as you do not remain outside the US more than inside--this goes for sort trips as well as long stays. The magic number is 182 days in any 365 period.
7. Can I request the Re-entry Permit to be sent to US Consular office of my home country? YES
Thank you!

A re-entry permit is REQUIRED if you are going to remain outside the US for more than 1 year but less than 2 years. It is recommended if you are going to remain outside the US for more than 6 months, but you still need to maintain residency within the US while "visiting". I suggest you look here to see the consequences of apply for and using the AP. Please keep in mind that if the CBP person thinks you have abandoned your LPR status, it is upon YOU to prove that you have not and if you cannot prove that you have maintained your LPR status, you can be denied re-entry to the US.

are you thinking you can get 'instant re-entry permit' by applying at a walk-in in the Guam USCIS office?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
