Hi all,

This forum has been extremely helpful for me in pursuing my GC.

My friend (US citizen) had married a girl from india about 1.5 years ago, since she was studying and without a passport, she just recently came to the US.

Once arriving to the US, she got a 2 year visa/GC. The day after she received the visa/gc she said she wants a divorce. According to us, this is surely a scam and we would like to do whatever we can such that she is not given a US green card. Is there anything we can do as i feel very bad for my friend who has been under depression since this has happened.

Thank you very much to all of you for all your help.

Since the wife has a green card in hand (which is different from a VISA)

then no, not so much that can be done.

Can try to speak with a FDNS officer at a local USCIS office, appointment gotten via infopass, but that's about it.

Once the greencard has been issued, options are limited, if any.

Are you certain the wife has the greencard in her hands?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Report it in person, then move on

Tough to do after seeing clear fraud, but thanks.

She has made sure she got the GC in her hand before taking any steps. Sucks to not be able to do anything, but thanks for your help.

The best thing to do is give her the divorce she wants and let her go her merry way. Just bear in mind the commitment made in the affidavit of support will remain in effect, even if they divorce. There is no need for you or your friend to do anything in terms of immigration.

Good luck.

If she came here on CR-1 green card, it is conditional green card. Report to USCIS that you fell victim of fraud. She will have a problem in two years when moving the conditions, since you/your friend can speak up again. I don't think she is out in the clear yet.

It's amazing how many questions can be resolved with a 2 minute Google search...

What evidence of fraud do you have?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

She only have 2 years with that green card if he divorce her now she wont be able to get the permanent green card.... report her and get divorce that is All he can do right now

So not true. She can divorce and file for removal of conditions with waiver. All that is needed to show is that you entered mariage in good faith.

There's no stopping the 10 year card really without hard factual proof which is quite difficult. Hearsay will not work.
