So my fiance has to fill out DS-230, but we are wondering about question 43a and 43b because my fiance had come to the US in the past on a J1 Visa in which she lived and worked for 2 years. She was issued a SSN and I presume you answer yes on the form and state the number. Would it be viable to check yes again to receive a replacement number or does it not really matter either way?

I don't understand these questions myself. Both of these are under 43a.

Would you like to receive a replacement
card? (You must answer YES to question
43b. to receive a card.)
Yes/No
Do you want the Social
Security Administration to
assign you a SSN and issue a
card? (You must answer YES
to question 43b. to receive a
number and a card.)
Yes/No

These 2 questions seem very similar in the way they are written. Would she answer yes to both since she had a previous SSN issued to her when she had her J1 Visa?

I'm a little confused as the DS-230 was one of the forms for Fiancé visas that was replaced by the DS-160 back in October. Do you mean the DS-160? (Current online app to complete for packet 3 for fiancé visa applicants). I'm not sure what stage you are in as I didn't see a timeline so just looking for clarification is all. ;-)

This message is for corey&Guyvens

I have noticed in your timeline that you are still waiting for your packet 3. i heard that you could ask them to send it to you via email. This would make the process faster. Did you know this???

IF your consulate asks for that form, then fill it out. IF they did not instruct you to use that form, then do not bother with it. Only the DS-160 should be needed for all K-1 applicants by now, but I do not know how behind your consulate might be on the changes. And as to the above person about the DS-260, that form is not used by a K-1 applicant. http://travel.state.gov/pdf/Using_ds_160_for_K_Visa_Applications_October_2013.pdf

You answer the questions honestly. It won't really matter because someone that enters with a K-1 will not receive an SSN in the mail anyway. You must go apply in person. http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn
