Hi all,

Quick question...

I was granted my CR1 visa and am now living in the USA. I know I have to apply to remove the conditions of this visa during the 90 days before the 2 year anniversary of when the visa was granted.

My question is - how long does that process normally take from beginning to end? (Reason being we will probably need to apply during March time and I have a very close friend's wedding in May) I'm worried the 2 will clash!

10/11/12 .. I-130 Sent

10/17/12 .. NOA1 date

12/20/12 .. File was transferred to my "local field office" (Baltimore)

02/05/13 .. NOA2 date

NVC:

02/11/13 .. NVC receives case

02/28/13 .. Case number assigned

03/01/13 .. DS-3032 Emailed

03/04/13 .. DS-3032 Accepted

03/04/13 .. AOS bill paid

03/08/13 .. AOS bill shown PAID

03/05/13 .. IV bill paid

03/06/13 .. IV bill shown PAID

You remove conditions on your residency, not the visa. Furthermore, the soonest you can file to remove conditions is 90 days before the green card expires, not 90 days before the anniversary date of visa issuance.

Is your close friend's wedding in the US or in another country? The answer to your question depends on where your friend's wedding is taking place.

March 26, 2009: We become a couple!
September 10, 2009: Arrived for first meeting in-person!
June 17, 2010: Arrived for second in-person meeting and start of travel together to other areas of China!
June 21, 2010: Engaged!!!
September 1, 2010: Switched course from K1 to CR-1
December 8, 2010: Wedding date set; it will be on February 18, 2011!
February 9, 2011: Depart for China
February 11, 2011: Registered for marriage in Wuhan, officially married!!!
February 18, 2011: Wedding ceremony in Shiyan!!!
April 22, 2011: Mailed I-130 to Chicago
April 28, 2011: Received NOA1 via text/email, file routed to CSC (priority date April 25th)
April 29, 2011: Updated
May 3, 2011: Received NOA1 hardcopy in mail
July 26, 2011: Received NOA2 via text/email!!!
July 30, 2011: Received NOA2 hardcopy in mail
August 8, 2011: NVC received file
September 1, 2011: NVC case number assigned
September 2, 2011: AOS invoice received, OPTIN email for EP sent
September 7, 2011: Paid AOS bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 9, 2011)
September 8, 2011: OPTIN email accepted, GZO number assigned
September 10, 2011: Emailed AOS package
September 12, 2011: IV bill invoiced
September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)
September 14, 2011: Emailed IV package
October 3, 2011: Emailed checklist response (checklist generated due to typo on Form DS-230)

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

Once you file the I-751, you will be sent a letter that extends your status for one year, carry that with you. Traveling to the UK for a short period during the ROC process should not present any issues.

Amazing that you friend has already booked a date for 2016.

As far as travel... shortly after you apply for removing conditions you will get a NOA1 receipt that says it also serves as a one year extension of your greencard. So you may travel on an expired greencard as long as you carry that extension notice with you.
