Interview is next week. Going without Spouse? Military Training

Hello, My husband is on military training right now in another state, he cannot come back home for my Green Card Interview.

I called the Military Help Line, and one of the ladies told me to submit my husband's orders, a letter explaining why my husband couldn't come, asking for a new date for the interview and a copy of the request to appear for initial interview. I sent all that info last week, as soon as I got the interview paper through mail. And I've been waiting for an answer, but I haven't heard back from USCIS yet. I tracked the package and it got there safely (I sent it to USCIS Santa Clara, where my interview is supposed to be). Now, I'm wondering, The interview is on NOVEMBER 14, next week.

My question is: Should I go by myself even if my husband is not with me? This is a little bit stressful right now. I would like to hear if other military spouses have attended the interview alone, without their husband/wife.

Thank you.

Have a good day :)

If I were in your situation, if you don't hear from USCIS before the appt I would go.

Your spouse should've used your appt as a reason to move his training dates. I originally had pre-deployment training scheduled during the time of our interview and my chain of command helped me move it.

We couldn't do that because my husband was already gone when we got the date for our interview. He left in Mid-October and I got the letter at the end of the month. :-/

I'll go to the interview alone if I don't hear back from USCIS by Wednesday. :)

I am going tomorrow! It's on November 14th. I called USCIS today (again), and the person on the phone said that I should go alone.

All the papers are ready for tomorrow! I'm getting nervous and excited! :)!

Thank you!

Oh my god I am excited for you too! We will have an info pass with the local office next Monday and my husband just got a memorandum from his leadership stating that he is going to AZ for 6 month training. Hopefully it will help a little bit.

Good luck to you tomorrow and please keep me updated! :) :)

I went today!!!! I waited for an hour or so (San Jose USCIS Office), I was so nervous. And finally a lady called me, I went to her office and she said "I wasn't expecting you today!", I replied "Well, I sent a letter two weeks ago, and no one ever answered, so I came just in case".

And well, we checked my husband's schedule, and when he is coming (Christmas). Now, she is going to send me a new appointment, and we should have the interview at the end of December.

I requested her to have the interview alone today, but she said my husband had to be there. She went and talked to her supervisor about it, but he also said that my husband had to be with me.

So now we have to wait one more month.

Oh! and I got my Employment Authorization Card on the mail! That's very exciting! :)

That is great news! I m glad that you ran into nice IO :) Now I know pretty much what will probably happen to me if my interview date happens to be after my husband's report date.

Now that you can start working, the waiting will not be that boring anymore! lol I am happy for you and thank you for updating me with the latest news! Good luck on everything!

I passed the interview! I got my GC! We got the interview rescheduled for December 24th. The IO was really nice, it was a man. He checked every single page of all the papers we submitted. He did his job.

Only thing he asked us was How we met. And that was all. I already got my Green Card on the mail!

Amazing Experience!
