I'm dating a Japanese girl who is currently going to college here in the US. I'm a US citizen, born & raised. It's looking like we may be pregnant, Her visa is actually expiring at the end of the year because she is done with college after this semester. I'm trying to figure out what the best options would be in terms of having her stay here or come back ASAP.... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My advise to you .........marry her and beginning the paper work, japan is 12 hours fly; too far ..........you have her already here; loose her will be not an option for you.

remember we are not an immigration layer and all the cases are different. However I have a Japanese friend that he is in USA more than 28 years and he do

not want to be American citizen because he will loose in japan some privileges, ask her first.

愛しているよ, she may be can read this ... good luck oops8rh.gif

If you are willing and able to get married, I would recommend doing so asap and filing for her Adjustment of Status to get a greencard.

if you wish her to stay here,

then adjusting status from a F1 visa

is perfectly acceptable.

is straightforward, marry, then file the big set o forms - we've a guide for that.

any time she is 'out of status' is forgiven when the green card arrives, but - she must remain in USA until the green card arrives.

It's a lot o forms, paper and money - but read the GUIDES section for what you need ..

IMO, if you chase visa processing, there is no 'ASAP' , really. Must to wait, she'll probably have the baby before the visa arrives.

Congratulations on the pregnancy !

In my honest opinion you both need to decide what you want first. Just because you're expecting a child together doesn't mean you have to or should get married. Also you should discuss what would happen if you don't (visitation for a child for example) or what may happen if you divorce. It's possible that what is best for the family in the long run may be to get married and make sure you both can live close even if your relationship doesn't work out. I suggest some serious talks.

basically the best thing to do though, should you decide to proceed, is to adjust status.
