I love when someone says something racist/ignorant/offensive/incorrect on the internet. They (or someone wanting to defend them) will always jump in and claim it was a joke/social experiment/only said to get a reaction.

It can't be something as simple as the guy who said the racist thing is a racist. Nope.

Yep!

I thought that the other poster was referring to herself, when speaking of 'the kenyan'... It is common in The Valley that the girls refer to themselves in the third person... The poster seems to fit the profile, so it did not sound unusual at all.

With all the negative connotations 'the kenyan' was depositing on herself, I thought it was all a matter of justifiable self-derision. I did not think birthers were still walking the Earth though.

Please use the Continent specific hyphenation African-American.

If you say Kenyan-American that is racist

Once again denoting his continent of heritage makes you cool and politically correct

denoting his country of heritage makes you a racist.

Got it

Yes libs are that Fed up

Who is saying Kenyan-American, NB?

Certainly nobody here. Nope. They conveniently drop the American part. Funny, isn't it?

It is hilarious to watch people like you try to defend something OBVIOUSLY racist.

There's no Kenyan-American talk. Ever.

You tell me when another President has been referred to by his nationality rather than his name or title.

It doesn't happen. And if you honestly believe that people call him "the Kenyan" for any reason other than to be disrespectful and racist, you are fooling yourself.

Now, there are plenty of times when Obama gets criticized, deservedly so, and people incorrectly cry racism.

This is not one of those times.

There is literally no reason to refuse to speak his name or title, and replace it with "the Kenyan" instead. Not "Kenyan-American" ... the Kenyan.

F-

[enter continent/contry name]-American is not racist. It is just wrong IMHO. Anyone born on US soil is an American, regardless of who their parents are. (source: Amendment XIV of the United States Constitution)

Personally I continue to refuse to use the misnomer 'African-American' in lieu of 'black', when referring to someone's race. IMHO African-American - although not a racist term - was coined as an attempt to suggest that black Americans were anything less than 100% American, or any of its more rallying variations, i.e. 'pure' American or 'true' American. I do not recall anyone using the expression 'European-American' in reference to whites in this country.

So, to your point, Kenyan-American, in the context of the POTUS and the birthers, only serves to showcase the ignorance of the speakers.

JFK's Irish heritage was talked about and referred to ad nausem..Not racist Unless you think having African heritage is something to be ashamed of

Got this off Wiki...,

In the 1980s the term African American was advanced on the model of, for example, German-American or Irish-American to give descendants of American slaves and other American blacks who lived through the slavery era a heritage and a cultural base.[155] The term was popularized in black communities around the country via word of mouth and ultimately received mainstream use after Jesse Jackson publicly used the term in front of a national audience. Subsequently, major media outlets adopted its use.

i'm not defending anyone. I offered a suggestion, since blue has not responded yet. the man is married to an Asian, so he's not a racist. if you seriously need to label him anything, at least get it right. the word you are looking for is bigoted.

So JFK's critics called JFK "the Irishman" instead of his name or title? Did anyone try to and convince people he was actually born in Ireland?

I wonder if there were any "go back to Ireland" bumper stickers.

Honest question since I don't know American presidential history as well as Americans probably do:

Has this "birther" movement that was experienced by Obama ever been experienced by another President?

Is there another President out there that had to release his birth certificate just to shut people up about where he was born - and then have them NOT BELIEVE IT?

Well I can't speak to anyone's beliefs but my own. But when I see Kenyan in reference to the POTUS, it has nothing to do with race (since Kenya is not a race, but a place), but more with the idea that he is not 100% American. Guess that makes me placist. Black or white, man or woman... the POTUS needs to have the best interests of the USA in his heart, petiod. His/her color matters not to me.

How about this... instead of calling folks racist when they hammer the POTUS, how about instead of supporting him by expounding on what good he has done for the USA. If you can. Thus far, I see a lot of finger-pointing and racist-calling on here, but how about convincing those who are unhappy with his performance of the good he has done by quoting examples?

Stop the name-calling and support your POTUS by extolling his successes.

Also, we will never know his true natiinality, as all of his history could have been modified by the folks who wanted him to be POTUS. As of today, he is American enough to serve. But are all his visions pro-American?

The fact that someone is married to a person of a different race does not disqualify them from being a racist. A persons spouse does not matter in the equation at all.

Not that I recall. In my time, there has been no other president whose nationality or American motives have been called so into question.

But remember... anyone with money and a little know how can get just about any certificate or official document created. How much easier would it be if you had the support of all the 3-letter agencies? TOO easy.
