That's the really confusing thing.

He's NOT Kenyan.

One person here doesn't seem to be able to grasp that. I wonder why not?

Did any other President have to go through this? People not believing he was born where it's been proven he was born? No? Why not?

There's also confusion between racist words and racist intent.

Racist intent is determined by the context in which the words are used.

Whatever are you suggesting? It certainly has nothing to do with race, so don't even go there. rolleyes.gif

I am willing to entertain the idea that it has nothing to do with race. Let's take race off the table. What DOES the birther movement have to do with? :)

McCain was not referred to as 'The Panamanian.

Cruz is not referred to as 'The Cuban'

You do the math...

Subtleties of thought are clearly lost here, even when the subtleties are so unsubtle as to be shouting from the rooftops.

Mexican is not a race. It is a nationality. You can be prejudiced against or bigoted towards Mexicans generally but not racist against Mexicans as a whole.

This has been a message from The Brown Menace.

Now who is being a bigot?

You say Mexican is not a race, it is a nationality. Well, not really. It refers to a group of people from a region, namely Mexico.

Yet you allude that Asian IS a race, but it is a geographical region that is loosely used to define people from that (very large) region. How is this different from Mexican?

By your definition, African is not a race, either. Nor is African-American. Yet we use it like it is, don't we. Heck, we have even included "Kenyan" in the list of racial categorizations.

------------------------------------

From Wiki: Race is a classification system used to categorize humans into large and distinct populations or groups by anatomical, cultural, ethnic, genetic, geographical, historical, linguistic, religious, or social affiliation.

Dictionary says:

1. A local geographic or global human population distinguished as a more or less distinct group by genetically transmitted physical characteristics.

2. A group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution: the German race

3. A genealogical line; a lineage.

4. Humans considered as a group.

So yes, Mexican, Asian, German, African are all terms that describe races. And people who are bigoted towards a particular race is a racist. Technically, someone who speaks out against an American is also a racist, right?

The trouble with ALL claims of race and racism is that... not many places nowadays hold a particular group of people. Asia holds Americans, Africans, Asians, Australians, etc. America holds people of all nations and races. So to make a bad statement towards "Americans" as a race it not really racist, it's just lazy and ignorant.

The claim of Kenyan was made against Obama, who is black. Again a difference between racist words and racist intent.

But it's a birthplace issue, NOT a race issue. His father was Kenyan, right? So folks who try to deny his US citizenship claim he is Kenyan based on that.

Don't see where it is a racist comment. If someone was convinced I was born in Canada, and referred to me as "The Canadian", I wouldn't call them racist.

Ignorant, perhaps. Stupid, maybe. But not racist.

The point being that Obama being a black man is part of the reason that the issue is brought up. He's also been called a closet Muslim for the same reason.

The intent is to make out that Obama isn't a bond fide American and to emphasise 'otherness'.

He is not Kenyan. It's racist if you refer to his country of Heritage. It's racist to point out his Kenyan heritage. Liberals think it's shame to be from Kenya.

Please do not point out his Kenyan Heritage Racist

All Hail the African-American...Ok that's cool right

People claiming he is Muslim are ignorant. Just cause you were raised in a Muslim School and changed your name to a Muslim name, it is racist to assume you have Muslim ties

If my wife had a kid, and he grew up to be President, he would still have lots of family in the Philippines. He would have visited there often. and every Philippine in the world would probably call him the Pinoy President with Pride.

If people called him the Filippino it would be a good thing, because they are proud of their county

I guess Liberals and Barry are ashamend of Kenya

As much as the other side considers it to be a shame to be from Cuba or Panama.

You are incorrect.

Mexican is not a race, and neither is German, French, Australian, Canadian, etc, as you suggest. These are all nationalities.

In the context of ethnicity, races are based on other markers.

I can't believe people are still playing the Kenyan angle. For real, as much as you guys brag about your perfect wives that make your life awesome, you'd think you'd be a happier group of people.
