It was bad. Death toll currently 4, but I suspect it will jump as time passes. Bad storm.

8.1 on the 1.0 to 8.0 Dvorak scale. Sustained winds of 305 km/h with gusts reaching 370 km/h. For comparison, 252km/h is the threshold for a cat 5 hurricane.

Hope the death toll won't be off the charts, too.

Oddly enough I am not hearing any reports of the kind of devastation and loss of life you would expect.

Our family was about 70 miles south of the eye wall and said power is back on no biggie.

Our family is just outside Tacloban. We (as well as others with family in or near Tac) have lost contact with our family. It is very stressful just sitting & waiting to hear but right now...that's all we can do. My wife guesses it will take a few days before we hear anything. That sucks.

Mindoro survived okay. Baguio hardly knew the Typhoon was there. Sidewalks got wet in Manila.

I hope my family and friends are safe out there as poor the country is they are not getting any breaks a huge earthquake struck there not long ago.

Thanks. We're still waiting to hear. My wife told me death toll was at 56 our 6pm.
