Usually, you should not have any problems renewing if your situation hasn't changed drastically since you applied three years ago. However, this is something I would be inclined to inquire about in the Egypt/MENA forum on here, since the situation in Egypt has changed drastically since 2009.

yes it changed a lot , thank u

I'd definitely go first.

thank u , do u think its a risk of not using the visa ? as they may think I not need so they deny me in renewal?

They wouldn't deny based on not having used the previous visa.

A short trip before the expiration date might actually be a very good way to show that you stick to the rules of the visa.

Or, it could be viewed as what it appears to be -- an attempt to make the individual look "better" as a visa applicant. The interviewing officer could just as easily ask why you waited for almost 5 years to use the visa, made a really short trip (why the expense now?) and immediately applied for a new visa. Weren't eager to use it for five years and now want to have/use a visa immediately after a trip to the US. Personally, I think it would look better to just explain why the previous visa wasn't used and how your situation better sets you up to use a new visa.
