that's a shame, i got excited wheni saw it said that. :(

Filed: K-3 Visa Country: Ireland
Timeline

Hi Everyone!

As a forum newbie I suppose there's no better place to start than here! Thanks to TeaCup for the forum suggestion good.gif

I'm the US Citizen, Thomas an Irish Citizen, both of us living in Vancouver, Canada as Permanent Residents after quite a lengthy hassle with immigration up here. We've been here 3 years now and were recently married here in Vancouver on 10/24, and submitted for the I-130 on 11/14, receiving our NOA1 on 11/18.

I know VJ has the general view that the K3 is obsolete and expensive, but we're at a point where we just want to be down in the US as quick as possible so we're willing to have a shot at it. We mailed the I-129F on 11/26 and received the NOA1 for that on 12/5.

Both were sent to Nebraska, and it's looking like they've been paired up at this point. On 12/11 we received the following updates on our case statuses:

"On December 11, 2013, your Alien Registration Number was changed relating to your I130, IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN"

&

"On December 11, 2013, your Alien Registration Number was changed relating to your I129F, PETITION FOR FIANCE(E)."

My assumption is that they were updating our info after the I-129F was received. Of course I'd love to believe it means that we're going to get approval, but I'm pretty sure that would be wishful thinking ;)

Anyway, I've updated my timeline to what I think is correct (again, I emphasize the newbie status), and I'm crossing my fingers and toes for all of us November-ites!

A happy and safe early New Year to you all as well!

Hello again to all, and Happy New Year.

I might have asked this already, and if so I apologize, but can anyone confirm for me if the 'receipt number' is the same as the case number?? Is the receipt the same as an NOA??

I just want to clarify, thanks to all who answer.

The receipt number is your petition's numerical "Name" in the USCIS system. It is what your petition is called by the USCIS's various adjudicators and other sundry mionions and it's how your petition is located by the USCIS's automated message system (on the phone) and on the website. Your "NOA1" or I-797 will have the receipt number on it, but the two are not synonymous. You can get the receipt number from the text or email the USCIS sends petitioners, or also by calling up the helpline, in addition to getting it off the i-797. I never got my i-797, so I had to get it from the email they sent me.

Thanks, my husband sent me the i-797 so now I understand what I'm looking at. Texas service centre needs to speed up. This last year of long distance (after 5 already) is without question the hardest.

Fingers crossed I'm there by end of the year.

Thanks for the info!
