Has anyone noticed the glaring error on the paper in package 3 that specifies the measurements of the 5 photos we have to get?? In the measurements section it says that the photos must be 2X2 inches (50mmX50mm) square. OK .... but if you look at the bottom of the page it indicates that NOTE: these photos meet the same requirements as canadian passport photos. They don't though. Canadian passport photos are not square! I spoke with the lady at Henry's camera store .. and she reassured me that immigration photos ARE square ... so the measurements indicated are correct ... but the note at the bottom is very wrong.

You want American measurements and specifications, not Canadian.

Canadian:

Photos must be no more than 2 inches wide X 2 3/4 inches long (50 mm X 70 mm) in size.
http://www.ppt.gc.ca/can/photos.aspx?lang=e

American:

2x2 inches in size

http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html

They also are different in backgrounds, etc. Not sure what the lady at the camera store was talking about.

OK I have 5 passport pictures with canadian requirements. I gave 3 form my medical and all they did is attach it to the sheets so they didnt really care about the size.

But now I just took a look at me 2 pictures left. They meet all the requirements for Background, size of the face, distance between top of the head and chin, etc, etc.

And I measured also if I would cut the bottomof the picture to make it square ( its 49mm by 70mm right now) the distance between the eyes and the bottom of the picture would be perfect still.

So any suggestions?? Cut the picture or no?

They cant deny you for following the instructions written on their own sheet can they?? :protest:

For the passport photos we submitted of my husband (at the USCIS stage) I cut them... I think alot of shops that do the photos trim them when they come out, so I don't think there's anything wrong with it :)

Most passport photo places will also do them up to US specifications if you ask them too. I went to Black's for my I-130 & I-129F photo submissions and just told them I need US specs for immigration. But yeah, I have read that people just cut them down as long as there's enough room so your face doesn't get cut off. ;)

Hi every one...

last week i completed my packet 3.

as you all know they are requesting 5 passport photos

3 for Medical exam regular passport size OK

2 for the DS156 form (in duplicate) if you notice on this

form...you are required to have one passport photo cut down

to 50 X 50 as shown in the picture space of this form.

I was chatting with a woman while we were waiting for our

Medical result envelopes...she had just come from her

Vancouver interview. she had regular size passport photos

for her DS156 forms and the interviewer sent her across the

street to get new photos taked with the correct 50 x 50 size.

DETAILS...DETAILS...DETAILS....

Guess it depends on their mood? I went through Vancouver and mine were definitely not the 50mmX50mm size. Wouldn't really be a huge deal to run across the street though, they certainly aren't going to deny you over it.

There's also a passport photo booth in the Consulate in the holding room downstairs so if worse comes to worse than just go down there and get new ones. Just bring loonies in case.
