Help! Returning to JA with expired passport?

My husband's grandmother just passed away. We realized that his Jamaican passport expired this February (2013). He is a US permanent resident. Is there any way he can return for the funeral with an expired passport? We have called and emailed all the consulates and gotten no answer. Any help on finding information would be SO appreciated.

A permanent resident does not need to show a passport to re-enter the US, only their green card.

The problem will be the airline, it's unlikely they will allow him to board an international flight departing the US without a valid passport. Maybe you would be able to rush a passport renewal through the Jamaican Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Right - we know he could come back fine (last time we went down they had zero interest in his passport on the return trip). I didn't even think about boarding the plane here, so thanks for that. We were concerned with if they would let him enter the country in Jamaica without a current passport. So again, thanks for reminding me about airline requirements.

Some airlines allow boarding got to check with airline but have to get passport renewed in Jamaica for return. Also Jamaica consulate can issue emergency travel document providing you have flight itinerary as proof.

A notice of the death and his expired PP & GC will allow him to board if

he was born in Jamaica and is a GC holder ( even if he was naturalized)

he cannot be prevented to land in Jamaica while he has (JA) PP,BC ,family

members & a dead family to prove he is Jamaican, One positive thing in

Jamaica they R not inclined to harass or arrest their citizens arriving here.

regarding PP as long as U R authentic

A word of advise the day U arrive here go to 25 Constant Spring Rd &

apply for expedited PP...as U can run into problem leaving on an expired

PP to US....no airlines wants to get fined even though CBP is more interested

in GC...but some agents will trip when they put your PP in that machine & its expired

and that is done B4 check-in ...so he's good to go
