Hello,

I am a bit lost here. I just started the K-1 Visa process for my fiance and am a bit confused and nervous about the whole process and came across this website and I am hoping that I can get help and advice from the rest of you based on your knowledge and experience. ^{Yes I think I may have used these instructions or one close to it to file my petition. I mailed out mine on friday and got the notificatioin in my e-mail today from the post office that it was delivered and received yesterday. So I am all excited and waiting for the next step in the process. Thank you Penguin.}

Study ahead -- read "Embassy Info" and "Reviews: Embassy" (links atop any VJ page) for the consulate where the eventual visa interview will be held. This stage is down the road for you, but it should not be taken lightly. The procedures, requirements, and perils can vary widely among consulates.

So I am extremely excited today because I received the text that my application was received with the receipt # and to look out for the official notice in the mail.

Ok so can anyone give aproximate/estimate time frames of getting their application approved after receiving their NOA1? Woul dreally be helpful. Thank you in advance

The time until you get your NOA-2 can vary greatly. It depends on what service center you went through, whether they need to contact you for additional information, how many other people have filed lately, etc. I believe the national average is around 5 months, but many people lately have been getting it faster. We got ours in 35 days, and I've seen several couples lately got theirs in even less time. Apparently the government shutdown really sped up the process, no idea if the wait time has since gone back up. The most important thing is patience.

OMG!!! The wait is killing me, I'm sorry I am very anxious over this whole process!!!! I am trying my hardest to be calm. Hope I am as lucky as you and have mine processed quickly. Our anticipated wedding date is July 2014 but we are ready to move it as needed.

Relax and get yourself busy with other stuff. Try not to obsess about other people's timeline. you're just going to drive yourself crazy when you read others getting approved here and there especially when they have filed at a much later date than you did. I'm speaking from experience hahaha! There's nothing you can do anyway but wait. Some people got approved in 19 days and some have to wait for as long as 5 or 6 months. That's just the way the cookie crumbles

Chill out, you may have a long wait ahead of you. Don't stress too much about it, and find other things to do to occupy your time so you aren't stressed over waiting.

Some people get there 2nd NOA in as little as 19 days!!?

This gives rise to a question. My financée is working on a cruise ship until the first week of April. I was about to start the K1 Process imagining that she would, of course, be back in her home country by the time we get the 2nd NOA... but I was going of the 4-5 month estimation.

What happens if we get the 2nd NOA and she's still on the ship?

Its very rare to get it in 19 days! Honestly don't expect anything before 6 months, but you know if it happens it will be a pleasant surprise.

After the NOA2, the packet has to sent to NVC who then have to send it to the Consulate. This can take several weeks too.

So at what point precisely does she need to be in her home country to take care of any documents? (Of course, she has to be there for the interview.)

My concern is that we get the 2nd NOA and she's still on the ship. Can it wait till she's back? What's the time limit on it?
