I-551 is the official USCIS name for green card, the interviewer at the AOS interview may or may not stamp passport with the I-551 stamp indicating a green-card has been approved, and is ordered.

Thanks. Even though we are approved, is it a good or bad thing that they do not stamp the passport?

Thanks.

Not a bad thing unless you need to do something that requires the green card, such as travel out of country and you don't have AP, or applying for work and you don't have EAD.

So I have a quick question. My husband got his green card in the mail but did not get the stamp at his interview nor did they take his I-94 out of his passport. Do we need to make an Infopass appointment to get the I-94 removed and the stamp. It wouldn't be such a big deal but it is like a 2 hr drive each way for us. Or will they just remove the I-94 when/if he leaves the country?

No they will either take on not take the I-94 card, since you got the green-card you are no longer a non immigrant so will not need to turn the card in when leaving the country, you don't need the stamp in your passport since you have the card, the stamp only acts as a temporary green-card until getting the actual card. You can remove the I-94 and perhaps put in a scrap book.
