Just had to start this topic after a good friend of husband's asked me for whom I was going to vote in the local mayoral elections. He was flabbergasted that I wasn't a citizen (received Green card in May 2013) and thought that I 'automatically' became a US citizen at marriage! Another friend asked me if I had fulfilled my life's dream by coming to America! He was shocked when I told him that I only came to the USA because my hubby wouldn't move to Canada! luv.gif

Does being an American automatically make you good?

My wife gets the aren't you happy you made it to America comments too. Its funny how people don't understand that many love their home country and had no desire to leave it. My wife also wished I would have moved there and said she'd support me. But I don't think I could handle living as a Filipino, I need a few extra comforts than that.

Other foolish question - Where did you learn to cook Chinese Style ?

I first starting getting "where are you from?" in my home state when I had a southern roommate. That drawl is easy to catch. Then I started travelling all over the country for work, my accent really got messed up.

My hubby moved to Canada to be with me as a Canadian LPR. one of the first questions he asked me was if we could buy Moose Meat at Safeway's (grocery store chain)

10/28/13-I-130 Sent via USPS to Chicago Lock Box from Abroad

11/01/13-I-130 received at facility

11/12/13-Contacted Chicago Lock box to find info on our petition and was told it is being returned.

11/14/13-Received package back from Lock Box with RFE to resend it with correct filing fee.

(Money Order not drawn on US account)

11/25/13-I-130 Sent via USPS to Chicago Lock Box from Abroad with correct method of payment.

12/06/13-Received NOA1 via Email stating our case has been transferred to Nebraska Service Center.

12/12/13-Checked USCIS site for Case Status. Seen our case is in initial Review.

12/16/13-Received Hardcopy NOA1 in mail.

Feb 5-crossed border to US to see hubs and son off at airport. Flew to CA to establish domicile.

Feb 11-Case touched to update hub's change of address

Another question was "What language do you speak in Germany?"

And one more funny thing back many years ago when I was visiting the U.S. was some person who believed that in Germany we take baths with cats. What the heck... laughing.gif
