Hello all.

I am a Russian citizen living in Canada as a permanent resident.

My girlfriend wants me to join her to visit the US...Las Vegas...in January/February.

However, I was convicted of a DUI (a felon) and can not travel to the States unless I pay $6-700.

But I was wondering, if I apply and receive a tourist visa through my Russian passport and citizenship, would I be able to avoid paying the surtax?

I will be visiting Russia for Christmas and New Years and might be able to apply from there, but would need to enter through Canada.

Any guidance on this would be very helpful.

Thank you.

Trying to circumvent US laws regarding your DWI is not a good idea. That means you would have to lie on your visa application when asked if you have ever been convicted of a crime, that is misrepresentation.

Where is that thread about how difficult it is to get a Visarofl.gif

There is no tax for a DUI, now I know the Canadians are more picky, but not the US.

Thank you for your thoughts on my issue.

No I will not apply nor lie on any application while in Russia.

There is no rush to see the US. It will still be there when or if I am allowed to enter.

I will focus on most of the rest of the world for now.
