Friends,

I am wanting to know whether registering to get a marriage license in the US for a future date is advisable before the interview for K1? I would like to get a specific date and want to reserve a slot in the court for that day. So would it be a problem if I register for the marriage license now? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Ralf

I would think if you want to do that, the time between actually getting the visa in hand and flying through POE will suffice. That's what I plan on doing.

02/14/2014 - Case shipped to Embassy, where it waited for over a year at my request                                 11/07/2015 - AOS approved (EAD and AP had already been approved) - there was no interview

05/21/2015 - Interview - Approved

06/19/2015 - Wedding (L)

We had our visa interview today this morning and we are APPROVED! dancin5hr.gif

I am glad this process for the most part is finally over! :)

My fiancé was so nervous and the immigration officer that was interviewing us was such a liar, telling us he doesn't know how to speak Korean. We didn't have the option for my fiancé to do his interview in Korean. He was hoping the interview would be conducted in Korean and would feel more comfortable, since of course English is not my fiancé's first language. And there was another man watching us behind the immigration officer who was conducting the interview. I wanted to call him out on lying to us that he didn't know Korean because he was the ONLY officer interviewing all the visa applicants (because the US Embassy in Seoul is not so busy), not just fiancé visas but interviewing for other visas where some applicants didn't know any English at all.

But all that aside, he asked like irrelevant questions from the normal interview, asking me if I had met my fiancé's family etc. I had to chime in and answer some questions and was being asked questions. I thought I would be watching from the sidelines and Mr. Choi would be answering. I don't know if they were treating us differently because we were a same sex case and they didn't believe our case ... but through that ordeal Mr. Choi's fiancé visa has be approve. :)

I asked the immigration officer that was interviewing us if we were the first same sex K-1 visa approved and surprisingly he said we were not the first one. Makes me happy that their are others who are paving the wave for us.

SO HAPPY!

Can't wait for tonight we are going to have an engagement dinner party with our close friends in Korea and can't wait to share the good news with them. Sadly going back home to LA on Sunday and I will see him soon in June, when he finally moves to the US.

Thank you for your help and guidance everyone! May I wish you guys a fast and speedy process for your visa interviews and process. :)

감사합니다! ^.^

Lovely news, all in all. :) Congrats on getting approved.

Me, I'm still waiting for the court paperwork to come through. I've received Packet 3 but can't really do anything until the court gives a final decision on my case... (custody issues, in case you're wondering).

Hi there,

you can go ahead and book the date you want for your marriage ceremony thats what we did !

Hello everyone,

New to this site, and a november filler. I've been reading posts since two hours now. I have a question, maybe some of you can help me with a clarification.

I have received the yellow envelope from my embassy (romania). The instructions are very clear and the first thing i have to do is to complete the DS-160 online form.

Do i have to do it immediately? considering that i have to wait for income tax return from my fiancee, its the only thing and the most important that i don't have from my fiancee.

Or should i fill out ds 160 and then wait for his income taxe return. Do i have time once i fill out the form?

Hope anyone has been there and can give me an answer.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome :)

We did fill out ds-160 before having all the paperwork ready. I don't think it really matters. Did your embassy send you a form (paper or online) to fill out once you are ready for the interview ?

Basically the way it works for France is that we have to fill the DS-160 (whenever we want and print your confirmation page), gather all the papers asked and once you are done you send back to the embassy a form of readiness so they know they can schedule your interview.

Anyway ! We filled ours before receiving packet 3 and no problem at all :) Just need your embassy case number to fill it out.

Hope that helps ! You can also read the page of your embassy on the website : http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Romania&cty=Bucharest

Looks like your equivalence for our readiness form in France will be your confirmation page of the DS-160 and the passport informations.

Good luck ! You are almost done with the K1 process that is really exciting
