I wondered what the alien reg number was for too. Maybe it's another way of tracking in their system? Maybe someone else can comment?

Others probably know more but my experience is that you A number is personal to the individual who is the alien. So I have had the same A number since I entered on one visa, then adjusted my status on that visa to allow employment and still now that that visa is over and my husband is petitioning for me. They have never changed mine, don't know why they would but it seems to happen. Anyway - my experience is that it is unique and personal to the individual person a bit like a SS number. Its pretty handy too because once you know it you can reference yourself in correspondence and phone calls quickly and easily.

I am a petitioner currently living abroad and filed from here. Since tracking a package sent from here is impossible with some services and outrageously expensive with others, I mailed the petition and supporting docs to my family back home. They then mailed it with delivery confirmation. I took comfort in knowing that my package made it stateside and delivery confirmation soothed all fears about it getting lost (as packages have when being sent to and from here). I probably would have been fine mailing it directly from here but I'm happy how it played out.

I decided to use my foreign address to receive notifications. It takes 10 days for mail (letters) to reach here and both NOAs were right on schedule. Packages are unreliable but letters arrive in a timely fashion. I'm not sure how your mail is in Kenya.

My other alternative was to have the notices mailed to my parents' address stateside. But I decided that was unnecessary.

If there is a good chance that you won't receive the letter at all, then use a US address. But if you're just concerned about waiting a while, you should go ahead and use your foreign address. The hard copy notices aren't necessary to have right away. They don't give any special info or directions UNLESS you get an RFE. This is the other issue I considered. I read you have to enclose the original RFE in your response and therefore the hard copy would be necessary to receive in person. But that ended up not being an issue for us.

The letter will come eventually and if you file the G-1145 you will be emailed when your package is accepted/received and be able to check you status online and set up email notifications that will inform you of NOA2.

Good luck!

Thanks for the response!

I used my parents address in the US for notifications - I was too worried about the NOA2 going missing on its journey to Kenya, and having to request another one to be sent for the interviews. I sent in the G-1145 with my I-129f, so at least I get the notice with each step without having to constantly bug my family to check the mailbox. Hopefully I get my NOA2 over the holidays (with no RFE - cause as you're suggesting, that would be a whole new headache), and a co-worker can bring it to Kenya with them in January.

10/21/13: Sent I-129f package with a friend who was heading back to the US

That's great news for the married couples! I wonder though if that has any effect on fiancees? Since I don't know if we are considered 'immediate' family as we are not married yet?

Fantastic news!! Our petition was approved last night!! :))))))))
I still can't believe how fast things went! It only took 19(!) days from NOA1 to NOA2. This is crazy! Let's just hope the rest of the journey goes just as smooth.
Good luck to everyone who is still waiting on their NOA2. I'm sure we will all get approved really fast! :)
