We got NOA 2, 14 days after getting NOA 1. I am happy and surpirsed. The NOA 2 was actually waiting in my mail box for a few days as I was wondering several days when I would get it. I only sent 3 pics and my passport entry stamps. I forgot to write where the pics were taken. They were full page enlarged print outs on normal paper, printed at home. Also sent phone bill showing many calls. That's it.

wondering if anyone else is currently living abroad as the petitioner? while it makes filling out the paperwork easier when we're both in the same place, I'm a little worried about the delays with getting all the hard-copies of notifications from my US address. Mailing items to and from rural Kenya is expensive and pretty unreliable...

I am a petitioner currently living abroad and filed from here. Since tracking a package sent from here is impossible with some services and outrageously expensive with others, I mailed the petition and supporting docs to my family back home. They then mailed it with delivery confirmation. I took comfort in knowing that my package made it stateside and delivery confirmation soothed all fears about it getting lost (as packages have when being sent to and from here). I probably would have been fine mailing it directly from here but I'm happy how it played out.

I decided to use my foreign address to receive notifications. It takes 10 days for mail (letters) to reach here and both NOAs were right on schedule. Packages are unreliable but letters arrive in a timely fashion. I'm not sure how your mail is in Kenya.

My other alternative was to have the notices mailed to my parents' address stateside. But I decided that was unnecessary.

If there is a good chance that you won't receive the letter at all, then use a US address. But if you're just concerned about waiting a while, you should go ahead and use your foreign address. The hard copy notices aren't necessary to have right away. They don't give any special info or directions UNLESS you get an RFE. This is the other issue I considered. I read you have to enclose the original RFE in your response and therefore the hard copy would be necessary to receive in person. But that ended up not being an issue for us.

The letter will come eventually and if you file the G-1145 you will be emailed when your package is accepted/received and be able to check you status online and set up email notifications that will inform you of NOA2.

Good luck!

Procedures regarding scheduling of interviews are different for each country. This is the India portal, check out the consulate information.

For Chennai, it seems NVC schedules the interview. I haven't checked the others. Good luck :)

Makes me wish we had filled early October instead, because of how fast processing went that month. Who would have predicted that USCIS would keep working during the shutdown...

Well at least I hope that they have lowered they work load and it still goes a bit faster than usual, maybe not 30 days... but before 5!

Hang in there, you will get your NOA1 soon. If you send the g-1145 form, then you should get an email between 3 and 4 days (of course the weekend doesn't count) after it arrived. I think the worst part comes after NOA1 though, because months can go by without ANY update and that WILL drive me nuts!

But oh well...

I am not a very patient person, I am nervous and I get stressed and obsessed over everything ... xD So I am hoping I don't lose my mind. My Fiance on the other hand is THE most patient person I know, so he is not even worrying about any of this 0_o!

Well I am just hoping I can get some peace of mind by posting here and getting to know all of you! :)

Have you checked the India forum? From the moment the consulates receive the packages, each service does things their own way.

I believe there was a couple who had a NOA1 with TSC for the very beginning of November that already has the NOA2. Besides them, I don't think anyone has gotten it yet. Almost all the early November filers were routed to California so they're getting their NOA2's already. I'm still hoping mine will come this week...

Hello, i just want to ask whats the best contact number to call USCIS regarding with the status? Thanks.

I don't know the number but I've read on here the best place to call is the Department of State (DoS) - they can tell you the same info as the NVC and they're quicker and nicer. Do a search here on VJ for DoS phone number, I still think it's too early for you to call though. Supposedly, you should wait around two weeks from the NOA2 before you should start calling.

I live in California by Los Angeles. I sent the file to the Texas Lock Box, confirmed via NOA 1 and it was then transferred to the Califomai Center, who issued the NOA 2. I think the California center is the fastest of all, IMHO. Other centers seem to take a bit longer. The service center the petition is sent to, depends on where the petitioner lives.

Now waiting till about Dec 21 to call and email the Brazilian Embassy about our interview date. The NOA 2 is only valid til March 21, so the interview has to be before that date. I am reading it will take no longer than 2 months after the embassy gets the file to schedule the interview. So I am calculating the interview will take place no later than about Feb 21.

Funny thing is, as the NOA 2 was waiting in my mailbox, I made flight reservations to Brazil for Mach 31. That should teach me to check my mailbox daily.

Good thing my finacee already has her police records and other paperwork from her recent and previous attempt to get a tourist visa, which was denied, because she has said she never visited another country.

But there is a police record of her returning back to Brazil from abroad, which is when she was denied entry into France when she arrived in Paris and was sent back on the same plane she came on. So while she attempted to visit Europe, she never actually did so, which is why she said she never visited....we might have to explain that at the interview....

So to me, she never actually entered France - thus she never visited another country.

Oh yes. I originally met her in person and have been back several times to visit, including last Brazilian Carnaval. Things are really moving fast for K-1 Visas. However, other Visas are still very slow with some people waiting up to 12 months for NOA 2. We almost went that route (CR-1) and thank God we didn't.

I understand there are many here who met online, where proving you met is important. But I originally met her in Brazil and my passport entry stamp shows I was there at that time and that I have been back several times.

Americans also need a VISA in their passport to enter Brazil, which is obtained through the Brazilian embassy before travel. All this is why I only sent in 3 pictures as it's clearly documented that I was there and when I was there. I didn't feel sending more would do anything except make he file thicker.

I also did not include an extra page explaining how we met. On the I-129f form there is room for a few sentences and that's all I used. I said we met while I was traveling in Brazil with friends, after my divorce from my 1st wife.

Hope you get your NOA2 soon. Start getting your interview paperwork now, as it can go faster than you think right now.
