Hi everyone.

Question from the dumb - what is a NOA2? - What is the difference between it and the NOA1 and what does it look like?

NOA1 (Notice of Action) just means that they have received your i129f petition and is in the process of going through your application. NOA2 means that your petition has been approved (either you had no RFEs or your RFEs have been approved) and your application is then moved onto the NVC, where it will again be processed and then transferred to your fiance(es) local embassy.

We talk a lot about it in this forum mostly because the average/typical timing is the longest wait in the whole k1 visa journey, so getting your noa2 feels like a huge hump has been crossed!

K1

Nov 7, 2013 - i-129f mailed to Dallas Lockbox

Nov 16, 2013 - noa 1 received

feb 20, 2014 - noa 2 approved

march 5, 2014 - case number assigned at NVC

march 14, 2014 - case received by local embassy

april 4, 2014 - interview

may 1, 2014 - visa in hand

june 13, 2014 - POE: Boston

AOS

Aug 1, 2014 - AOS/EAD/AP package delivered to Chicago Lockbox

Aug 6, 2014 - NOA1

Aug 19, 2014 - Biometrics appointment for AOS & EAD

Sept 29, 2014 - EAD/AP combo card received in mail.

Mid-Nov - Potential Waiver of Interview letter received

End of May 2015 - renewed my EAD/AP, got the NOA1 and another letter stating that I don't need to do biometrics appt.

June 11, 2015 - welcome to America letter! (no interview...no service request..)

June 16, 2015 - green card in hand

Oh, brilliant thanks. So I shall know it because it will say "Approved" at the top??

Here's another dumb one for you - how do you get your timeline at the bottom of your post - have you put it in your signature?

16th October 2013: Application Sent

31st October 2013: Email and Text message NOA1

5th November 2013: Physical NOA1 in mail

6th November 2013: Appointment Notice Letter for Biometrics

22nd November 2013: Request for further information

29th November 2013: Biometrics taken

Posted

Ignore that, I have figured out!!!!!

So to give an update: on 22nd Nov I got a yellow letter: "Request for Initial Evidence". It looks like it is just for the I-485.

I have been asked for a number of things, some of which don't make much sense:

  • "Form I-864 Affidavit of Support was submitted; however it was not from the petitioner"

(There were 3 Affidavits in the application, one was from the petitioner and the other 2 were co-sponsors so somehow this has clearly not worked!)

  • "The joint sponsor on Form I-864, Affidavit of Support must submit all supporting tax documentatino, W-2's, 1099s and all supporting tax schedules submitted to the IRS for the most recent year."

(I thought that they did and we went through it on the phone but as I am not au fait with the US tax system I don't know what the various things are)

  • "The joint sponsor on Form I-864 must be a United States Citizen...Such evidence may include a birth certificate or passport."

(I had no idea that they would need this - I hope that won't be hard because I know that my in-laws don't have passports. I guess I just assumed that because they have my husbands birth certificate and they are both named on that.... but you know what assumption does!!!)

Has anyone else heard of similar hiccups - especially where joint sponsors are concerned? A brief look through the forums has not turned up anything obvious.

Hey there loborley!

I'm a little confused ^^; your post is referring to a I-485 which is the adjustment of status application (http://www.uscis.gov/i-485), but I checked out your timeline page and it says you filed for a IR-1/CR-1 with form I-130 but have only received NOA1 so far.

I'm not very familiar with the IR-1/CR-1 process, but I looked up the guide ( http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1 ) and it doesn't mention filing for adjustment of status. I'm pretty sure with an IR-1/CR-1 you do not need to file for AOS as you will be given a green card when/shortly after you enter the US. (I'm really sorry but I don't know much about this type of visa so I could be wrong, I'm only familiar with the I-129f process, the people here will know a lot more: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/110-ir-1-cr-1-spouse-visa-process-procedures/ )

If you did file for a IR-1 or CR-1, I'm afraid we in this topic might not know the info you're looking for ^^; as we all filed I-129f for K1 fiancé visa which has a different process with different forms and evidence required. I'd really like to be able to help you out with your questions but sadly I only know about the K1 process.

I hope this post made sense, I'm a little tired xD

Best wishes :)

U: Trust me you are so not the only one obsessed about this whole thing. goofy.gif I check my email everyday hoping to get something from USCIS although I know that they were closed. Wishful thinking I guess.... I just want my baby here so bad and he wants the same too.cray5ol.gif I suppose that all this obsession now is because I want the case to be accepted and I could breath a little. Let's wait, shall we?

So on the website it says our I-129 was approved on November 20, and it says they mailed the NOA2 that day as well. Only problem is I still haven't received it. I'm living in the UK (I'm the petitioner but my fiance and I are both here in the UK right now), so of course I knew it would take a little longer, but a simple letter still typically only takes a week or so from what I'm used to. Should I be worried that my hard copy hasn't arrived yet? I know it probably doesn't mean anything and my case is on its way to the NVC regardless of whether or not I receive a note saying so, but still, I'd like that hard copy just to confirm things...But maybe the mail is just slow the past couple weeks and it's on its way.

Sorry for worrying...

Are they sending the NOA2 to a UK address? Don't forget there was Thanksgiving as well. That might make things slow down a bit.

Hello everybody,

We just got notice that our case (filed mid Nov) has been transferred to Califoria - has anyone else had this happen?

Disappointed as Texas seemed to be processing things so fast, I hope California will be the same.

Very happy for everyone who has had speedy results so far, hope the rest of the process is fast for you too.
