Hello, VJs!!

I know there are a lot of threads about this topic, but I am really confused and worried about the vaccination record.

I came to America 6 weeks ago, and I am now working on the paperwork for my temporary green card. Before I came to America, I got every shot that is required (MMR, Tdap, and Varicella) and I have my vaccination record. (DS-3025) On this form, the doctor checked 'vaccine history incomplete - Applicant may be eligible for blank waiver because vaccination(s) not medically appropriate.' I had the medical checkup on Aug 26th and I didn't have flu shot because it was not the season.

Also my husband called USCIS to get a clear answer for that today (If I need to go to a civil surgeon to get I-693) and he/she said I don't need the form from a civil surgeon, but the worker said I have to go to a doctor who is not a civil surgeon and get I-693 (just part 5) with the doctor's signature. Is that true? Do I really need to do that? That made me more confused.

I really need your advice.

Thank you in advance.

The people at the USCIS misinformation line know as much about immigration as my shoe. Ignore everything they told you.

You do need to go to a civil-surgeon but you don't need a medical, you just need them to transcribe your vaccination history from your DS-3025 to an I-693. Call around to some civil-surgeons near you (https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.type&OfficeLocator.office_type=CIV) and ask whether they will do this service and how much they would charge. Some of them will insist you have to have another full medical (you don't) or will charge you some outlandish fee for performing five minutes of paperwork. As long as your K-1 medical was performed within the past year then you do not need another medical exam.

You should expect to pay ~$25-50 to get this transcription performed.

Thanks for your comment. You mean I need to go to a civil surgeon even though I have DS-2035, right?

Speaking of CSs, I read so many good things about a civil surgeon in Marietta, GA . My husband also called this hospital and a worker (who answered his phone) said it costs $ 150 even though I have my vaccination record. Last year it cost $65!!! (and 10 more dollars for the consultation)

I didn't know what to say.... How do they raise the cost so high in a year?!?! Has anyone who lives in Georgia heard about that?!?!

3. What if I am a K nonimmigrant visa holder and already had a medical exam overseas?

If you were admitted as a:

a. K-1 fiancé(e) or a K-2 child of a K-1 fiancé(e); or as a

b. K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen or a K-4 child of a K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen; and

c. You received a medical examination prior to admission, then:

(1) You are not required to have another medical examination as long as your Form I-485 is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination, and the medical examination did not reveal a Class A medical condition, or if you did have a Class A medical condition, you received a waiver of inadmissibility and have complied with the terms and conditions on the waiver.

(2) Even if a new medical examination is not required, you must still show proof that you complied with the vaccination requirements. If the vaccination record (DS 3025) was not properly completed and included as part of the original overseas medical examination report, you will have to have the vaccination report completed by a designated civil surgeon. In this case, you are required to submit the vaccination record and page 1 of Form I-693.

Yes, I entered the US with a K-1 visa. I read the instruction many times, but still I am very confused. Did your spouse sent the AOS application with I-693 or just DS 3025???

They charge that much because they know they can get away with it.

Yes, I know, Hypnos..... Oh well... It is not surprising... :(

I am no VJ expert...this is my 2 cent

The way I understand it is if U are

getting to the US between OCT & MARCH

U must have a flu shot...could that be it?

I don't know exactly, but I came to America in September.

Hi Soojung,

We submitted the 3025 with the instructions I shared here. Our interview is on November 26th. No RFE.

"On this form, the doctor checked 'vaccine history incomplete - Applicant may be eligible for blank waiver because vaccination(s) not medically appropriate.'"

This is what Joan's said. No problem for us so far. I doubt that it will be an issue at the interview because USCIS would not schedule the interview unless the paperwork was correct.

That's not necessarily the case, since you can still be RFE'd at the interview or even after it.

Soojung,

If you DO need to get any extra shots you can check if there are any local county health departments. Sometimes they have cheap vaccinations which can be received. Ask James- he might be able to help you out with making some calls. We paid $10 for the form to be signed and stuff - if they are going to charge you $150 then find another place. Hope you guys are doing well :)
