Do I need my passport for (AOS) green card interview?

I am trying to decide when the best time to send my passport off to be renewed would be.

My passport is in my maiden name and is also due to expire in May next year, so I would like to send it home to get a new passport issued in the UK. The helpful advise for the UK passport office is that it can take a minimum of 4 weeks, so I would expect from that it will take at least 2 months (to include postage time) and potentially a lot longer. I would like to get my passport renewed as soon as possible so that I can travel if needed (once I have AP). What would you advise? Renew now, or wait until after I have the green card?

Is the green card affixed to the passport like my K1 visa was? Or is it a separate card? Will I need my passport at the AOS interview? I had my bio-metrics taken and they let me in using my British driving license (photo ID), so could I use that instead? Does my passport have to be valid for a certain period of time for them to issue the green card?

The green card is exactly that, a card roughly the size of a credit card. It is also green, hence the name.

I personally would wait on your passport renewal. You will still be able to travel despite your passport being in your maiden name and your green card / AP being in your married name; simply carry a copy of your marriage certificate documenting the change in names. They could ask to see your passport at your AoS interview.

Thanks Hypnos,

I will probably wait then if it could be required at my interview.
