Extending a B2 Visa

Timeline

I know it's not recommended and that it could adversely affect relatives coming back later. But does anyone know how to extend a B2 Visa passed the usual 6 months they grant you at the POE?

I've got a father in law here. I'm a US citizen and I sponsored him for my wife who is an LPR.

03/18/03 I-129F Submitted NSC

10/16/03 approved

02/05/04 Interview HCM VN

02/23/04 Arrived US

02/26/04 Happily Married

04/15/04 SSN

AOS Timeline:

03/10/04 AOS sent

03/19/04 NOA1 AOS/EAD

04/08/04 Biometrics

07/12/04 Interim EAD

07/13/04 EAD approved

07/17/04 EAD arrived in mail

07/25/04 Driver's License!

08/15/04 AR-11/865/DO letter send for change of address

08/31/04 Linh finds a job!

09/17/04 Interview letter, Oct 20

10/20/04 AOS interview, case continuation

10/27/04 AOS approved

Residency and Citizenship

11/01/04 Received I-797 welcome to U.S

11/03/04 Received 2-Yr CPR greencard!

05/04/05 Going back to visit Family!

I hope you have a good reason for an extension... They don't just hand them out like candy...it wouldn't look too good if he overstayed if you're trying to get him here eventually on an immigrant visa...
