Your big mistake and it is a mistake is to conclude that gay people with HIV are the problem. It isn't. Having HIV doesn't make you a good person but it doesn't make you a bad person either. Sufferers are going to run the whole gamete of human personalities and some might even be nasty, but it's not a function of being gay, or having HIV, it's a function of being human. Drawing any kind of analogy from this anecdote is meaningless but no doubt you will continue to do so.

No #######-ogy was drawn from that other than some cool stories about the San Francisco gay community shared by the author who pointed out / wrote about the sexual predations of this honored man. Were you extrapolating these stories written by a good friend and colleague of the man under discussion and the author who wrote about him to anyone else?

That is hateful, although mostly fictional. The author admitted he was pressured to make a lot of that stuff up to sell the book at a time when the media wasn't remotely interested in HIV and aids. He is on record as saying he didn't believe the whole patient zero hypothesis, and he was only remotely acquainted with Dugas.

He was not innocent by any means, but we know enough about the epidemiology now that it doesn't require a boogy man scapegoat as the cause. HIV was around a long time before this guy showed up.
