Hi All and thanks for all the help on this site. I got a letter from the Bangkok Embassy that said "This office is pleased to inform you that we can now begin to process your case." It then gives a website where I was able to download packets 3 and 4 that list the documents and forms required. It does say follow the instructions on Packet 3. On the packet 3 doc, it says most Embassy appointment will be scheduled in about 2 months but no guarantee it will be that quick ! Are they kidding ?

So is it the case that, at this point, we have to get all the docs, send them to the Embassy (address provided), and wait for them to notify us of the appointment date? I was under the impression that the Embassy would send her something but maybe that's not right. I do understand it more after reading packet 3 about 3 times. Just curious if any others have any tips for the BKK Embassy or tips in general. Thanks - Sun

You simply follow the instructions for the best result. They will notify her of the interview date.

Kidding? No. The embassy displays no sense of humor at any time.

That may be because they are involved in about 700 cases per month. Only two days per week are spent on I V cases which is why it can take weeks to months to get a date. It all depends on timing. Such as the up coming holidays. The don't work on American nor Thai holidays so those weeks get pretty short which in turn extends the schedule. Nothing funny about that.

Tips? You should have already done the medical and have had the police report in hand. If you didn't you lost some time. Regain that by sending in everything you have to trigger the date and tell them she will hand carry the rest in on that date.

You've gotten all your gonna get from the Consulate at this point. Follow the P3 instruction "to the letter".

Adding to what Ning posted, get the visa fee paid. I assume you have birth certs, and free to marry letter already. You don;t need translations for the Consulate, but while she is running around for everything else get the translations done. You'll need it for AOS later.

Oh, and the forms don;t get any easier to understand as you go along. lol
