Hi all,

I searched all over the internet and on this forum for the answer to this, and if one of you has posted about this already, I'm sorry, I may just not be typing in the right words.

I was wondering if during the CR-1 process at any time will they need my Canadian Income tax paperwork?

I am a Canadian married to a US citizen.

I have yet to file mine as my brother was in a coma all throughout tax season and recently passed away. This may not be a good excuse but my mind wasn't really all there. I have an appointment next week to meet with an accountant, but I have been told that since I am sending it all in late it may extremely delay the process and cause me to get audited.

The audit doesn't scare me, what scares me is how slow the process will be and if US immigration will ask for my income tax paperwork and I'll be in the middle of an audit and have nothing to show.

So do any of you remember or know if at any point, I will need my income tax paperwork, and how many years worth.

Thanks

One thing to note that you may not be aware of, is that your Canadian credit does not automatically follow you to the USA. You will have to start from scratch or find a bank that will delve into your Canadian credit. Royal Bank will do so if you have Canadian and US accounts with them that are linked.

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

Wow that's an eye opener, I hadn't even thought about this yet. Thank you so much for bringing this up! I'm a little upset to have to start fresh in my 30s, but at least it's not going to become a shock when I'm there. Again, thank you!

Thanks to all who have replied about my income tax papers, your help is appreciated.

I know how you feel, I had left my ex 4 yrs ago and had just started my own credit (which was great before moving to US), and now have to start all over again, but have also heard a great way to start is to get a secured Credit Card like they give students. I'm not going to go on my hubby's credit cause before I moved down he was horrible at remembering to pay anything, so his isn't as good as I would like mine to be..LOL

RBC told me that they would go into my Canadian credit for me to obtain a credit card through them to help build my credit down here. I haven't done it yet, but I plan on it soon and let you guys know how it goes.

Very late reply, but I opened up an RBC account in December for this purpose. Still haven't even had my interview, so I'm hoping that I have some time with RBC and when I get to the US I can rebuild my credit easily rather than starting from nothing.

Thanks for the advice

I opened a credit card with them. Super easy over the phone. Remember after you move to the usa and have an ssn to send a w9 form to the bank.
