As you said some of these folks know exactly what they are doing. Than people wonder how it is so difficult for people to get B1/2 from certain countries.

They have already hired a lawyer after they entered the country on B1/2 means it was completely planned to enter on B1/2 and apply for asylum.

Somebody needs to forward this thread to guy from Ukraine who is trying to gather signatures to relax B1/2.

Hi-

I am writing on behalf of a friend, and my visa experience has only been through getting my husbands work visa switched over to a green card, so I am not really famillar with B2 visa's.

My friends son and his 2 children came from Syria on a B2 visa. They can stay for 6 months, then must return, but over all the visa is for 3 years. The boys are enrolled in public school, and the school sent home paperwork to get them health insurance, however, this says they all (the son and the 2 grandkids) needs Social Security numbers.

Can you get a social security number while on a B2 visa? So far the research I have done says no, but I wanted to reach out and see if anyone had any helpful advice?? The grandparents are elderly, and only have medicare (which ever part is for hospital visits) and do not have full coverage. The Grandparents are US Citizens.

Thank you for any assistance you can give!!

I have no words to say. But you should read this entire post.

Ok here is what I think and maybe it helps.

Since they are 3 years in the USA, I assume that their overstay their visas. Unfortunately, in this situation, they cannot adjust their status. In order to adjust their status, they will have to leave USA and maybe they will not be able to return for 10 years. The only hope in this situation is to apply for asylum. But, they will need to prove that they are in danger in their home country. Please check USCIS website for more information. Tell them DO NOT do anything illegal in order to have a legal identification. Anything they do illegally, will go against them later, including arrestment.

Now, the Obama administration is trying as much as they can to push a immigration reform. If, only if, the immigration reform pass, it may be possible to them adjust their status in the USA. But immigration reform did not become law yet, therefore, there is nothing what they can do so far. My advice is to check with an license immigration attorney.

I wish my best to them.
