My fiance recently went for the K-1 visa interview. They said that he needs to get a new passport as the photo seems to be too old in it.

I have no idea how long it takes for a passport 'reissue' and then get a stamp from Mumbai! It sucks!!

My fiance had to change his birthday on his passport in Kolkata this past year. I don't mean to scare you, but it was a HUGE hassle. It took us eight months for the enitre process because the people working in the passport office didn't know what they were doing, and the kept asking for more and more money to get it done, when no money should have been requested in the first place. I have no idea if it is the same in Mumbai, but I highly suggest your fiance start that process NOW, and that he has some extra money if the passport officers ask for it.

But then again, you may have no problem just taking a new picture and getting a new passport issued. My fiance had to do a lot of legal things having to do with getting his birthday changed. After he had everything in order it only took two weeks to actually recieve the passport. I wish you luck!

Oh,I know it is very frustrating for the interview to get rescheduled .I had similar issues. My interview got delayed by 2 months due to reissue of passports(but were approved with no hassles at all) The process is very simple.Get the information from nearest Psk first about what all the documents you need.Register online for the change of appearance for the reissue. You don't need to carry a new photograph of yours since it would be clicked at PSK itself. The passport is reissued within 10 to 15 days, even if you chose normal route. However, you need a new PCC again on the reissued passport, which can take time(since the passport is reissued without police verification).Talk to the APO there and request him to issue the PCC in lieu of existing one.Generally they are helpful.I didn't pay anything else accept the passport fees and Pcc fees. After you receive the passports mail the ustraveldocs call center and update your profile with your new passport number.Hope this helps. All the best

Hey, Thanks for the info. My fiance applied using 'Tatkal', so it should come within a few days. Then he said it takes half day for PCC and then he has to mail to Mumbai for a stamp(God knows how long that takes!). The reason I sound like this is because I am scared that they will take long..It sucks!
