Greencard Timing? Separate App or Together?

Hello,

My friend (on an E3 visa) was dating a woman on a temporary work assignment. They dated for over a year and things got pretty serious. After her work assignment ended, she returned to her home country (France) and they continued to see each other.

My friend's company is now sponsoring his green card application. If they are considering getting married what is the best process to follow so she can move to the US and start their life together as soon as possible.

Should they:

1) Marry before submitting his green card app and have her added to it as a spouse?

2) Start his application and marry during or after it's granted?

What's the rough estimated wait time for each option? Your advice is greatly appreciated.

10/22/2013 (Day 43) - I-485 moved to Testing/Interview

10/23/2013 (Day 44) - Email confirmation for address change I-130/I-485/I-765

02/27/2014 (Day 172) - Notification interview is set for April 1

04/01/2014 (Day 205) - Interview Completed. **Notification Green Card was Ordered For Production!***
