We're so confused 0_o

Evening everyone,

My fiancee, an American, wishes to sponsor me, a Canadian. We decided to do so with a Fiance Visa (90 days allotted time once granted to wed) and then do a status change.
We have one little thing that's bothering us GREATLY and we have asked around everywhere. Here's hoping someone on this site can help.
I declared Bankruptcy in March. I won't be "absolved" until May 2014.
Does he have to wait? I read different things everywhere but nothing legal. Considering that before I'm even considered an American it will take years. ( Does that even matter? )
I was once married and I was scammed and it cost me close to 40K and I just couldn't pay it. It's not like I decided to "run". He even tried to help me pay I just couldn't. I don't know what to think or believe. We delayed sponsoring so I could file and it's hurt us to be apart.

​We read almost 50 different posts saying how a Canadian is entitled to 180 (some say 183) days as a tourist. Therefore whenever I visit my man I make sure I fall well with dates. Example, I was with him for 4 months, came back and visited twice since, If I'm not mistaken I have about 10 days left ( and this is according to some flimsy information I got when I called the US Border Customs phone number. They couldn't be straight with me. )

Point is. We are doing our best to not even bend the rules with the 180 day thing and we don't want to jeopardize any chances or get flagged or what have you. I got interrogated quite severely because I bought a one way ticket and I couldn't prove I had a job.The lady let me go once I was in tears and explained I know I'm allowed 180 days and I wouldn't do anything to harm the process. I only stayed 3 weeks. The next trip I took I bought a round-trip cause I'm so afraid anything can happen. He is the love of my life. I don't want him filing too early affect us or an interview or whatever. Do they even ask? What are the questions I should expect.

Sorry if I'm all over the place. Really don't know what to think.
