Quick question but important

Hi guys,

My fiancee and I were wondering and this may be a silly question but we're trying to explore all options here :)

I am Singaporean and my fiancee is the petitioner so he's American.

Let's say that I am in the States when we receive the NOA2 successful approval.

We're wondering if it's possible for me to choose not to fly back to Singapore for the consulate interview and do it somewhere else instead, for example the US Embassy at Canada?

It is absolutely compulsory that I fly back to my home country for the consulate interview and from there, fly back to USA with a Fiance Visa?

It's probably a No but we figured we might as well throw out the question :)

Thanks in advance for any replies!

If I am not mistakenly remember reading on NOA-2 hardcopy that my fiance sent me a copy, it says you have to file I-824 if you want they forward your case to a different consulate. Ask your fiance to check NOA-2 hardcopy after approval Someone can stand to correct me if I am wrong. Good luck!.

I checked our NOA2 also and it had the same thing, about filing the I824 for another consulate, so it looks doable :) Best wishes!

It's my understanding that while you can request to change which embassy, it has to be in an embassy in a country which you legally reside, which makes sense, otherwise no one in Nigeria would go to their embassy for example. I believe you cannot just pick and choose which one willy nilly and will have to go back to your country for it.

I thought the same.

Plus, the consulate stage can take 3+ months, which is longer than you can usually stay as a tourist in many countries.

From my stalking level on this forums in the past few months, I seen topic regarding this matter.

You have to be legally residing in that particular country for you to be interviewed there. E.g. under work permit

If you are there for tourism reason/visitor pass, No you can not be interviewed in that country.

The forms only apply if you are residing and not temporarily on vacation.

Hope that helps

Oooh alright! Thanks for clarifying guys! Was hopeful but knew it was probably not possible hehe :)

Anyway, another quick question.

I haven't gotten an alien registration number yet?

NOA1 came on October 21st.

Any cause for worry there?

Getting your Alien Registration number mostly just means someone has casually glanced at your petition, but is no indication of when it will be approved. Usually happens a couple weeks after they get it.

Your A# will be listed on the NOA2 I-129F approval notice, which will be needed for AOS.
