Sorry if this has been covered already (probably many times I am sure) but I received my packet 3 from Sydney this morning and I am kind of unsure what is the best way to get a photo to upload to the DS-160?

I assume a passport photo taken at the post office would be most suitable ... but what is the best way to upload it?

Or does anyone have any suggestions on how they did theirs?

Any help would be appreciated.

i was lucky enough to have a passport photo in digital format from another visa application i had to do and it met the standards. If you get a passport photo taken and ask for it to be put on a usb stick or cd you can save it to your computer and then upload it to the form. Check if the requirements of the photo need to be in USA passport size, my post office only does Australian size passport photos so you may need to go to a photo shop to get it done. i paid $20 for 4.

20th May 2013: I-129F sent to Dallas (US time)
23rd May 2013: Paperwork tracked and delivered to Dallas (US time)
28th May 2013: NOA1 case sent to Vermont Service Centre (US time)
4th Sept 2013: Update from USCIS-Case has been transferred to a local USCIS office...not sure which one yet
9th Sept 2013: Update from USCIS- file has been transferred and is now being processed at Texas USCIS office
23rd Sept 2013: NOA2- approved!
25th Sept 2013: Case shipped to DOS
9th Oct 2013: Packet 3 arrived via email
9th Oct 2013: Fingerprints done and Police check submitted to AFP (received in mail 30/10/13)
1st Nov 2013: Medical Appointment, (Melb) (results received in mail 15/11/13)

4th Nov 2013: Packet 3 sent to US Consulate, Sydney

5th Nov 2013: Packet 3 delivered to Sydney

8th Nov 2013: Received packet 4

19th Nov 2013: Interview scheduled- APPROVED dancin5hr.gif ...happy birthday for Joe! (visa received in mail 22/11/13)

Total K1 processing time- 6months, 3 days

30th Dec 2013: Entered the USA! POE: Dallas

8th March 2014 MARRIED! (L)

AOS:

7th Oct 2014: After unexpected delays, AOS package finally sent to Chicago

14th Oct 2014: Update received, I-485 accepted on 9th Oct and being processed at the National Benefits Centre

6th Nov 2014: Biometrics appointment scheduled and completed

16th Jan 2015: Letter received stating possible Interview Waiver. Informed there's a 6mth delay on processing

7th Aug 2015: Notice of Intent to deny received. Reasons given- expired Medical and new G-325A needed

11th Aug 2015: New medical completed

14th Aug 2015: Response to RFE sent back to USCIS

23rd Aug 2015: Application to Adjust status approved, Green card has been ordered

3rd Sept 2015: Greencard RECEIVED (yes it is Green!) :no:

Total AOS Processing time- 11 months

I completed my ds-160 few days ago. I took my own photo then went to this site:
http://travel.state.gov/_res/flash/cropper/FIG_cropper.html#

This site allows images to be made into 2" x 2" (US size) uploaded it, cropped and then saved it to my pc and uploaded onto the DS-160. No hassles at all. Once pic is saved to your pc, take the pic file on usb to harvey norman or kmart etc and get your pics collated on 6 x 8 size. It will then print out 2" x 2" mini pics which you can take to interview should you need extras.

10/13/16 - Biometrics Appointment

09/25/17 - Infopass - I-551 stamp. Expiry 6/25/18

02/15/18 - Case Inquiry - Out of processing time (09/22/18) Reply due 3/10/18.

02/25/18 - Case updated to "We received your case" 

04/06/18 - Case updated to "We received your case"

04/06/18 - Case updated to "We transferred your case to another USCIS office for processing" - CSC to CSC  (letter)

04/10/18 - Case updated to "We transferred your case to another USCIS office for processing" - CSC to POTOMAC  (letter)

04/19/18 - Case updated to "We received your case"

06/01/18 - Case Approved with N-400 Approval.

08/23/17 - N-400 sent (USPS Lost package, In Transit - Delayed status)
09/11/17 - N-400 sent again via FedEX.

09/14/17 - N-400 NOA1

09/25/17 - Email Acceptance - Routed to NBC.

10/10/17 - Walk in Biometrics - Seattle.

10/18/17 - In line for Interview

05/02/18 - Interview Scheduled.

06/01/18 - Interview - APPROVED

07/04/18 - July 4th Oath Ceremony.

I ended up going to a place called Foto Fast in Brisbane and they did it there... I don't know why but this seemed to be the most complex part of packet 3 for me haha.

I can't believe how many photos you need, I just remembered I need more taken for the medical.

Wow, I didn't even think of going to that effort! I just paper clipped mine to the form. Once I got to the interview stage, they just took the picture, smothered glue on the back and stuck it down in place... No dramas.
