Hi everyone just wanted to let you all know about my interview experience today and I passed!

I had my interview at the Salt Lake City office. The guy who interviewed me was very nice.

He did the exams first. My questions were:

1) What is one right or freedom from the first amendment?

2) Who is in charge of the executive branch?

3) If the president can no longer serve, who becomes President?

4) There are four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote. Describe one of them.

5) What is one reason colonists came to America?

6) During the Cold War, what was the main concern of the United States.

After that he went through my application. I was very nervous because I have been out of the country a lot. He said don't worry my application looks fine. When he got to the travel part he just asked what were the reasons of those travel. He was okay with my answers and didn't even go into any details. He said as long as you are not over 900 days he is not concern about it (I was out about 700+). He was very nice and went through everything very throughly and explained everything. I brought a whole stack of evidence with me and he didn't even ask for anything. After we were done he just kept asking if I had any questions. So I had to come up with some questions I kinda already know the answer to. :P I was very lucky. Now that's over with and it's time to wait for the oath!

Thanks everyone!

Congrats :)

I have been in queue for oath since 03/17, is that normal? My field office is Chicago.

Did you request a name change? Usually if you do, it takes longer than administrative oath ceremony, because USCIS don't have jurisdiction over name change, only courts do, so if that's your case, you gotta wait for judicial oath ceremony letter ;) I'd say extra month or two..

I just requested not to quote my second last name. I am Spanish and in our Birth certificates we have both the paternal and maternal last names, since coming to the US I have been using just the paternal one, I have my DL, Green Card, credit cards and so on with just one last name. To my surprise at my interview the officer told me that since in my birth certificate and my passport I have both last names they will include them unless I want to change that. It is too confusing to carry two last names so I decided to just continue with my practice. I don't know if that is considered a name change or not, if it is I don't understand why on my GC I have just one last name and they did not care about that.

Hi nlclhc!

I was in the same situation as you are. I also had both my paternal and maternal last names, but since coming to the US I have been using my paternal last name (Green Card, Drivers License, Social Security Card, Credit Cards etc).

At my interview, the officer also asked why I was missing a name on my application (my mother's last name). I explained to her that it is my mother's maiden name and it is traditional for us to use both parents' last names. She said OK, and it wasn't considered a name change in my case. The interviewer just asked me to make sure that all identifications issued in my name (passport, drivers license etc) be identical to what name will be on my US Citizenship certificate. So that's what I did and am doing. I am applying for my passport tomorrow and will use the exact name I have been using since entering the United States (my full name without my maternal last name).

Passport arrived today, our journey is at an end. I can't believe it's over, finally, as we come up to our 7th year as a couple this May. Looking forward to at least a few years in the tropics now that this is no longer hanging over our heads, getting my hammock ready for an October departure with no return ticket.

Good luck to all of you, and thanks for all of your help.

Oh man, I'm so sorry. I didn't have to do that. I guess it does depend on the interviewer after all. Good luck to you and your wife! And also, CONGRATULATIONS!

Lucky you, in my case, and also in my wife's case handled by a different officer dropping the second last name was considered a name change. So I am afraid that I have to wait for a judicial ceremony.

CONGRATULATIONS, Birdo!!!

Wow, the Los Angeles Convention Center! How many people were there?
