hello,

this is my first post here... been checking the website out for years since 2010...

im curious if there's November 2013 filers that filed in Baltimore? seems like it's backed up? called on the 89th day (i thought i might have lost the mail) and was told that "baltimore office is backed up" and no further assistant. as of today it's been over 90 days (100 days exact) and I still haven't gotten my interview notification, though on the USCIS case status, it is indicating as "testing and interviewing." gave USCIS a call on the 800 number and had a case open, but it'll take up to 2 weeks until i hear back from anyone... anybody has similar experience here?

Congratulations and thank you for posting your interview experience. I will (hopefully) have my interview in the same office and I'm hoping for similar results. I'm not close to the interview yet but, reading your experience helps. Thank you again...

Well I had my interview yesterday at the San Bernardino field office. Just to make sure that there won't be any traffic nightmare running late scenarios, we left an hour earlier than necessary. So since there wasn't any traffic, we got there an hour and 20 mins before my interview time. So we just kind of drove around the downtown area of San Bernardino (nothing to see) and then went to the parking lot of the USCIS building. The parking lot is a pay parking lot and it's connected to the building. Very convenient and plenty of spaces. The building is easy to get to from the freeway. Two right turns, left turn and then right onto the parking lot.

There was no line to get in the building and the two security guards were very nice. I was told to go to the second floor. There is a large room on the first floor also and I'm assuming different interviews/other USCIS stuff goes on there. Second floor had three windows and only one had someone behind it, so I dropped my appointment letter into the tray as directed and took a seat. After maybe 20 minutes I was called to the window and had my two index fingers fingerprinted and my picture taken. He also checked my green card. Then I sat down again and waited for maybe another 45 minutes and then a lady called my name and told me to go with her to the third door on the right behind the door where every interviewee was taken. She told me to remain standing and raise my right hand and asked me if I was going to tell the truth today and I said yes!

Then she told me to take a seat and give her my drivers license, green card, passports and social security card and asked if I brought my marriage certificate with me and she took that too. She started going over my application very quickly and she either wrote down answers or checked things off as we went. I had to remember my husband's birthday, so good thing I didn't freeze :) and the date of our marriage, and the date of my previous marriage and divorce. So make sure you remember all that - mine was from 20 years ago so I had reviewed everything the night before.

When she got to the arrested etc. part i said I haven't been arrested but I got a speeding ticket, and she said "but you paid it, right?" to which I answered yes, and she moved on. She was NOT interested in that at all. She sped through the rest of the application, then went on to the writing test. I had to read "who can vote" and write "any citizen can vote". Then the civics questions:

Who was taken to America as slaves?

Why did the colonists fight the British? (I said for freedom and she prodded me with "freedom from what" and I added from high taxes and she was good with that

How many amendments are in the constitution?

Who makes Federal Laws?

Who is the Vice President?

.... I don't remember the sixth question...

Then she said congratulations you passed and I am going to recommend you for approval! I almost got tears in my eyes and said thank you very much and she told me to sign on the two spaces of the application. I asked if I should sign with my full name including middle name, and she said to sign just the way I would normally sign. Then she said she wanted to make a copy of the approval letter and my green card etc. and that I should go and wait in the waiting room. Then she handed me two booklets (the constitution and the declaration of independence and citizens almanac). I went to the waiting room and in two minutes she was back and gave me my original items back including the marriage certificate and congratulated me one more time.

She had no interest in anything old in my file or the speeding ticket. The interview took less than 10 minutes. While I was in the waiting room I saw some people come out who clearly did not pass the interview and it was really sad.

I just checked my status online and it still says Interview and Testing, so hopefully soon it changes to Oath Que or Oath Schedule... :)

Your Case Status: Oath Ceremony

On March 25, 2014, we placed your application in the oath scheduling que. We will send a notice when the ceremony is scheduled. If you move prior to the scheduled ceremony, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

Originally i was scheduled for interview on Jan 29th , then I received a letter that it was cancelled, but I went there regardless and turned out that my A-File was not transferred from NBC. Long story short: officer still conducted interview, I passed and he gave me a letter saying that they were awaiting the arrival of my A-File for final approval. End of February got a letter saying that I was being scheduled for ANOTHER INTERVIEW on APRIL 3rd and now got this update that they put my application in oath que. Seems like system scheduled me for another interview not knowing that I appeared on my cancelled one anyway.

I'm glad it helps you - that's why I tried to be as detailed as possible! I was looking for something like that when I started my Naturalization process, just to see how to get there etc. and the whole timeline of that specific office. Good luck to you and don't worry about it.

I wonder if you still have to go to your second interview?? Just to make sure there's no weird snafus?

I have to go, because if system made a mistake by scheduling my second interview for nothing, it is highly expected that it might automatically abandon my application due to nonappearance, so I'd rather go there check-in and make sure that everything is on point. If they schedule me for oath before april 3rd that would be better and if not, maybe I will get them to schedule me right on the spot.

True and I agree going is the best option. And if they can get your Oath either done or scheduled that would be fantastic!

Getting oath done sounds kind of too good to be true lol, I will settle for scheduling. One thing that I know from my experience is that if you really want to move your case forward, your local office is the place to be, because customer service and tier-2 officers are mostly waist of time (including infopass), so if they let me to my cancelled interview there's a good chance that I might have a shot to get them schedule me. Considering the fact that decision has been made 2 months after my interview they should have enough courtesy to help me out.

Just to double check, when case jumps to oath scheduling que, it means that final approval is granted, right?

Yes that's what it means! In my field office they don't actually tell you that you're approved at the interview, they state "I am recommending you for approval" and pending "final approval" you will be scheduled for the Oath. So I guess some other person gives the file one last look before they say You're good to go and place you in Oath scheduling que. :)

But if I was you I would still go make the appearance on your scheduled second interview date... just in case!
