I was scheduled for the oath ceremony in the town where I live, not where I had my interview.

For F's sake, they'd better not do that to us! There's only one damn oath ceremony in this area per year, and it's in bloody November!

Yes I can but I don't know when the oath ceremony is going to be coz I haven't received any letter yet, still waiting to be scheduled. It would be easy if I had a date.

Where I live, most people have their oath ceremonies either in Memphis, Knoxville or Nashville.

Will just wait till Wednesday, hoping I get scheduled.

I personally thought the ceremony was meaningful. What the judge said was quite touching.

On another note, I submitted my application for my U.S. passport yesterday at the post office. I wasn't aware that they would actually keep the original naturalization certificate. The post office lady said they will send it back. So I won't be able to update my social security records until I get my certificate back.

Agreed - it was quite meaningful...definitely worth the wait!

I had the same interview date and passed it as Copetes and Nica in love on February 5th 2014 downtown Chicago. Tomorrow I'll come to downtown Chicago for Oath Ceremony scheduled. I'm very excited. I can't wait to hold Naturalization certificate in my hand. I plan to do passport and update social security record tomorrow as well. I will have whole day off tomorrow biggrin.png

The SSA may tell you to come back after 10 business days unfortunately, but you can definitely go do your passport thing. Bear in mind that a lot of passport application acceptance facilities require appointments.

Thanks for the info. Tomorrow if I will be busy, I will do passport at the post office 3 minutes driving from my house and visit my favorite restaurant for lunch and just enjoy the rest of the day. Today will be the last day I come to visa journey. After 12 years and 6 months I have lived in America, I finally become American citizen :D

Well, I'm going to have my interview tomorrow. I've actually been studying up on the civics questions, and hope that I won't get nervous and go blank when they ask me.. For those of you who have had your interviews:

- Did they ask you easy or hard civics questions?

- Did you actually need all the paperwork that the instructions ask for? (marriage certs, proof of marriage, passports, etc?) It's taken me several hours to get it all together. Wonder if they'll even look at it.

Thanks!

I would say I got a mix of easy to mildly difficult questions. In the grand scheme of things I don't consider any of the questions "hard" except for a handful that I had trouble memorizing (such as the one about people who wrote in the Federalist Papers), and even those aren't "hard" per se, just a bit more obscure. Then again I may have a different outlook since I'm a history grad and have very little difficulty memorizing this sort of data.

As for the paperwork, no, I didn't need any of it. The IO wanted to see my driver's license and that's about it. But you'll have to bring your stuff anyway, just because I or anybody else did or did not get asked to show any documents doesn't mean you will or will not.

You can read my account of what happened at my interview over there:

First of all, good luck!

The questions were fairly easy I would say, but like Shub mentioned, it's more of how easy or hard it is to memorize them. If you go back a couple pages you'll see the questions that I was asked.

I brought my DL, Nicaraguan passport and my new lease since we moved recently. The IO made a copy of both the lease and my passport. If you already have all the documents, I would just bring them.

I have a question regarding the answers, like for the question: What does the judicial branch of the government do?

there are like 4 things they do, if you say only : revises the laws. Will that be ok? Or you have to say the other things?

Because some questions will ask for one or two thing, but in the other ones that doesn't specify a number, should you memorize all?

Thanks in advance

Thank you, babfela! Your messages helped me GREATLY. I cannot thank you enough for helping me calm down before my interview. Good luck with the process of your husband's petition!

I was asked "What does the judicial branch do?" and my answer was "Helps decide if a law goes against the Constitution" and the IO accepted that answer. So I think it's safe to say that you only need to memorize ONE, unless otherwise specified (like some questions ask for two).

For questions such as what the judicial branch of the government does, where there are multiple answers, they're just giving you the list of acceptable answers, i.e. options. You only need to memorize one. On that note, the wording is important, so allow me to point out that "revises the laws" is not an acceptable answer to that question -- the word they use is "reviews", not "revises" -- and indeed the judicial branch does not revise laws, that's the job of Congress!

For questions such as the one about listing three of the original states, you don't need to memorize all 13 of them, just three. I know all of them but for the sake of the test I had prepared my brain to list three in particular (New York, Pennsylvania and Delaware).
