On February 10, 2014, we scheduled you for your oath ceremony and sent a notice providing the date, time, and location. If you move prior to the scheduled ceremony, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

Looks like I'm first to reach the finish line in this topic -- my oath ceremony took place this morning and I am all done kicking.gif

After the ceremony, they directed us to a stand held by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Commissions, Elections and Legislation so we could register to vote -- so I did that as well.

I think I saw that the custom in other similar threads is to mark people who are done in red, so here's the updated table. Looks like other people have gotten their oath ceremonies scheduled but haven't received the letter yet, so I didn't update anything but my own entry below.

Hang in there...Pittsburgh tracks at 5 months on average for processing time, so anything before 04/01 is gravy..it'll be over soon enough smile.png

That is the issue with not a busy office. All the other things happens fast(finger printing and interview). But they wait for enough people to pass to conduct the Oath ceremony and you end up waiting for the same. Hang in there and it will happen soon.

Looks like I'm first to reach the finish line in this topic -- my oath ceremony took place this morning and I am all done kicking.gif

After the ceremony, they directed us to a stand held by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Commissions, Elections and Legislation so we could register to vote -- so I did that as well.

I think I saw that the custom in other similar threads is to mark people who are done in red, so here's the updated table. Looks like other people have gotten their oath ceremonies scheduled but haven't received the letter yet, so I didn't update anything but my own entry below.

How was the ceremony? Glad to hear you registered to vote. Were they taking applications for U.S. passports? Not sure if they do that or not. I think I've read that they do.

The ceremony was fine, much like every account I'd heard in the past.

First they gave each of us a number, then called each number to hand over our old documents. Note on that: they didn't just want my green card, they also wanted my EAD and advance parole documents (which I'd never used and both were expired), so when it says on the oath ceremony notice to bring all travel documents they issued you, think hard on everything USCIS ever gave you and bring all that. Even though the EAD card is not a travel document, they wanted it back apparently. I don't think it would be a huge deal not to hand those over, but you might as well bring them. In retrospect I realized I forgot to bring them my old 2-year green card but I might just keep it as a souvenir. After handing over my old stuff, they showed me my certificate and asked me to make sure everything was accurate, which it was, so then we proceeded into the ceremony room and... waited. It took a good hour before they started it.

We got a little speech from the sector director (seemed like a nice guy), then they showed us a couple of videos: Faces of America -- basically a slideshow of pictures of immigrants over the years; a message from Obama; a rather painful music video of God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood (

-- I know it resonates with a lot of people but it's just too hokey for me and reeks of American exceptionalism which is a notion I always resented), then a little speech from one of the officers because of Black History Month, and then they called us in the order we had arrived at the office (we were each given a piece of paper with a number), and then it was all done!

There was no opportunity to apply for a passport, only to register to vote, but along with the certificate of citizenship, they gave us all a little packet with the text of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution (it's good reading while waiting for the ceremony to begin -- as a history major I had already read it but I like to re-read it as it's a powerful document), a little flag, a generic letter from the president (similar in content to the video), and most importantly a blank Department of State form DS-11 (Application For A U.S. Passport).

There were 41 or 42 people in the ceremony, from 26 countries (a majority of Chinese and Filipino nationals).

Timeline:

2005-04-14: met online

2005-09-03: met in person

2007-02-26: filed for K-1

2007-03-19: K-1 approved

2007-06-11: K-1 in hand

2007-07-03: arrived in USA

2007-07-21: got married, yay!

2007-07-28: applied for green card

2008-02-19: conditional green card in hand

2010-01-05: applied for removal of conditions

2010-06-14: 10-year green card in hand

2013-11-19: applied for US citizenship

2014-02-10: became a US citizen

2014-02-22: applied for US passport

2014-03-14: received US passport
