So I know I'm going to need an affidavit because I have never worked and I am a college student. However, I receive SSI (social security income) because of an accident I had years ago, but the physical damage is still visible.

My question is if I will have to show proof of my income or if it won't matter since my mom will be his sponsor ?

Also how long does mail take to go from a service center to nvc ? Mine was mailed yesterday and I want to know when I should start calling.

I have no idea about the affidavit but I'm pretty sure you will have instructions when u receive your packet i wouldn't even stress it yet, they prob won't even ask u for any of that till febuary since they start asking for all that after you have your interview date that is when they send out your paquet and ur beneficiaries packet... my case got received by the NVC in about 10 days after that i started calling and they gave me the case number the second day of it being there so id say its pretty quick after they receive your case then after that your case is sent out to DR in a few days. Its really backed up though my case got approved in september and i still don't have a interview date. sleepy.gif

Thank you for the reply. Yes many people are saying they haven't received a interview date yet. Lets hope its soon.

Also someone told my fiance (beneficiary) that he can't open his packet. Is this true ? It was just a friend of his so I told him it wasn't true, but just to be sure lol.

Well today is the 2nd/3rd day since it was shipped. I'll call today and see if I get lucky

the only thing he is not suppose to open is the paperwork after the visa is issued. Which is his POE paperwork.. which will be opened by immigration here in the USA

i don't think theres a packet 3 only packet 4

packet 3 is just the forms we have to fill out for the interview..which is downloaded online

Packet 4 is the cita letter

your welcome the whole process is confusing haha... as per the paperwork you could look it up online and fill it out just wait until your appointment day is near before dating it and printing it out. They will send you a copy of the forms but it's better to fill it out online and print them you could find them in the american embassy in santo domingo website. or here

Since you don't have enough of an income with your SSI in order to sponsor an immigrant, then you need a co-sponsor. You would need to make sure that this person's income would be sufficient according to the guidelines and they would need to sign the affidavit.
