PLEASE HELP !!

does packet number 3 require a copy of the beneficiaries passport or does she only need to present her passport at the time of interview..reason i am asking is that my fionce does not have a passport yet (long story) and india has a very slow process of deliverying a passport to her.. so i am just wondering exacttly when does she need to have a passport in her hands by?

I think she'll definitely need it for the interview. You still have plenty of time, cuz you have not even gotten yor NOA2 yet.

NOA2 may be on the horizon but then you have NVC and the consulate. Do you know how fast the consulate is in sceduling interviews?

I don't know if every country is the same but as far as I know YES. For Brazil they have to send copies of the first couple pages. Regardless she'll need it for the interview and then to travel.

In Thailand, the US Embassy requests a copy of the photo page of the passport of the visa applicant to be sent in before the interview is scheduled. This request is sent as an additional page in Packet 3 that seems to be a new additional requirement. You should check with the US Embassy in India to be sure. It may be country-specific.

In Brazil a copy of the passport is required when sending packet 3. You should e-mail your consulate and ask if the requirement is the same there.

Packet #3 normally requires a copy of the first 2-4 pages of the passport, DS-2001, DS-230 and 1-2 passport photos. May be slightly different for you. But you need a passport. After all, the VISA is placed inside the passport. So, if the beneficiary does not have a passport, you need to start the process now.

I found a copy of “Packet 3” and “Packet 4” for Mumbai consulate the following address: http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/ivforms.html. Reading the instructions gave me some peace of mind – Knowledge is Power!

YES, you do need a copy of your passport to mail back after receiving Packet 3. But there is still some time – NOA2 may be another 2-4 weeks in coming (or more), then another month or so to go to the Consulate and for your fiancée to receive the packet.

I know exactly how you feel – we were ready to start the K1 visa process in May, but my fiancé in India, who had applied for a passport in late January, wanted to wait till his passport came before applying. His passport didn’t come till August! There was a misspelling of his name which delayed the process.

May you get the passport before the Packet 3 comes! I'm sure you will, don’t worry. :-)
