same deal if have an unforeseen illness or accident. even with insurance..i wouldn't be able to afford the recovery or treatment so..what's you're point exactly? do you a want a system that functions properly (single payer) or would you rather continue ignoring reality?

i'm not a slumlord like you, i don't own any property. i have no retirement, i have no significant savings. we live month to month, struggling to get ahead. but struggle doesn't change the reality of the current healthcare system. i could find myself and my family at the bottom of the barrel, real quick. and all my hard work would vouch for s*$. you might find yourself there as well. it's time to start looking at solutions and facing reality, instead of living in fear and hoping for the best.

i don't know yet. but tell me, how comfortable will you be deciding that you'll never be in the position to need someone else's help to take care of you when your sick? are you a millionaire? independently wealthy? because all of you b*tching and moaning about your premiums going up would certainly feel differently if you were sick, but could get better, if only you had enough money. prepare a dialog to have with your family, explaining, hey - they science for me to get better is there but i can't afford it and i only deserve treatment if my bank account can back me up.

what do you think will happen if enough people can't afford their new premiums? do you think the world will simply collapse or the system will be forced to check itself and correct the situation?

Here is the rub Val.Insurance is the problem. We are about to create massive layers of bureaucracy, nothing about this is going to make health care affordable to anyone. It is going to make insurance affordable to some, but more costly for the majority. If you are poor, how in the hell are you going to pay those ridiculous deductibles and co-insurance costs. All it is going to do is make Insurance companies rich.

$325 a month? For comprehensive coverage? For a family? That would be quite a bargain. I haven't seen a premium that low in years. My policy costs more than three times that. It has been in that vicinity for many years. I pay about that as the employee share but then my employer kicks in more than twice what I pay. So $325.00 a month, where do I sign up for cheap coverage like that?

one thing, i work for a very wealthy man. he has cat scans done if his farts are a bit more rank than normal. he has no more right to that sort of care than a bum in a cardboard box. the science should be open to anyone who needs fixing, not only the people who have money. if you believe otherwise, you better start pushing a serious eugenics campaign.

for my son and i, i pay 180 a month and that's the best (as in coverage, not cost) available. it's pretty damn good, imo.

meanwhile my best friend has four kids who receive medicaid and i subsidize that as well. so does she. her check as a medicaid tax just like any other ft worker. she is insured through her work, but if she were to add her kids, well - there would be no point in her showing up every morning to try and earn a day's pay.

i really don't see what the massive difference is. we pay for the people who can't afford insurance already. be in tax or inflated healthcare prices.

Taking the fine will be short lived. Everything will go up, most especially the amount of the fine.

BE it local or federal, the trick is always to get something passed into law with the most palatable language, then modify it's scope, cost and reach later.

My premiums are not actually going up under the ACA at all. Why would they? As I said earlier, premiums are actually flat for next year. Yes, I get to pick up a little more while my employer shoulders a bit less of my premium - that has nothing to do with the ACA but with the increase in my compensation last year. How is that, you ask? Well, our multinational corporation is actually a bit of a socialist organization where those in higher pay brackets pay a higher percentage of the insurance premiums than those in the lower pay grades. Company figures that if you make more, you can afford to shoulder more. Grand, ain't it? Yes, I work for a socialist private enterprise - a Wall Street enterprise no less. How about that?

of course this is affecting average people, it is affecting everyone - as it should. i don't understand what it is with people today, it's like you think life is all roses and you're the only person on the planet. me me me. but then again, we're not exactly dealing with a bunch of saints, considering most don't even believe healthcare is a right. we're not dealing with a bunch of rocket scientists either, because no matter how many times you are given facts that reflect the obvious piss poor health care system we pay way too much for, you still insist on fighting to allow insurance corporations to pown you.

You did not absorb what I was trying to say.. I am saying Obama care is going to make it worse.

I am not advocating doing away with Doctors, only providing low cost options for routine care., like getting a few stitches,colds, hang nails etc, A while back i had an ear infection. I went to the local Doc in a Box. Waited 2 hours. The intake nurse said, yup you got a nasty ear infection, the doc will be with you shortly.

Doc takes a look.Yup you got a nasty ear infection. Here is a prescription for antibiotic drops. So three hours and 450.00 dollars later I am off to the drug store.

That is insane.

I am not saying do more of the same. i am advocating "NO MORE INSURANCE COMPANIES" they are the problem. Provide care for all. Socialized medicine, single payer, National Health care, whatever you want to call. Take the over 50% of people in health care that do not provide health care and put them to work providing health care.
