My husband is getting his visa today, & flying out early tomorrow morning. (If any problems, i can cancel the flight since i just booked it) My question is, will he be asked many questions through customs, or what is the procedure? I tried looking on here, but there is not too much info for ir-1 visa entry. He will have his passport, visa packet, etc. But is there anything he needs to know? Besides of course like my name + address??

Does newark airport give a hard time?

Thanks!!

He just needs to go to the desk, as normal, and he'll hand over his passport (with visa in it) and the sealed envelope. They'll step him through the process (he signs a form for his GC, gets a piece of paper, nothing too exciting). They may do this in a separate room, or right there at the desk.

Generally, the CBP at the airport will assume that USCIS and DOS (embassy) did their job, and he won't be questioned much upon entry (although they can ask what they want, just like the CO at the embassy).

He'll need his passport and visa packet, yes. Also, he'll be filling out a bllue customs form on the airplane (everyone entering the US has to), and he'll sign an AR-11 (application for green card) once he lands. This is normal, they generally just take his fingerprints and ask what address to send his card to.

Oh, another question, does he go in the visitors line or U.S. citizens/residents? I would think residents, but I don't want them to give him a hard time for going in the wrong one.

He can ask on the way in. Some bigger airports have "New Immigrant" lines, which he should join (Newark has one open sometimes). Otherwise, he should just join whichever line is shortest or ask someone official looking as he heads to the queues. It doesn't make much difference which way he goes.
