Once I sent back the notification of readiness, I received the email containing my appointment letter within the hour.

wow- that is super fast! We are very lucky that the consulates we're dealing with are efficient and from all the reviews very friendly. I've read horror stories about other consulates, so I count my lucky stars :)

Sept 24 2016 - resent packet (1st attempt arrived 2 days too early due to miscalculation of 90 days)




AOS Timeline


8/9/14- Mailed I-485/131/765 (took a long time to get our Marriage Certificate)


8/15/14- notified via text and email that application was accepted on 8/12 and being processed.


9/8/14- Biometric done; 11/5/14- EAD/I-131 Approved/Card Production


11/5/14- AOS moved to testing/interview; 11/13/14- EAD/AP Combo card REC'D


12/16/14- AOS Interview- APPROVED! 1/3/15- Green card approved.

8/19/2013 I-129F CSC Received 10/29/2013 Got email from NVC with case number (NVC rec'd)

8/22/2013 Notice that Alien Registration Number was changed 11/04/2013 Consulate Rec'd


8/26/2013 NOA1 Received by mail 11/12/2013 Packet 3 rec'd


9/20/2013 Email notice of NOA2 (31 days)



02/04/2014 After many months of waiting and frustration, FI finally got his birth certificate, passport and police clearance from his home country and we received an SMS today stating that his SA Police Clearance was finalized.


02/18/14 Police Clearance rec'd


2/20/14- Second packet 3 sent to consulate


2/27/14 Followed up with Consulate to get interview date. They schedule an interview for 2/20 when he submitted the application of readiness (what we had to do to extend his NOA2) on 1/21, but they didn't notify us of that appointment, so we missed it.


3/27/14- Interview- APPROVED!!!


4/10/14- FI entered US via LAX and flew to SF 6/14/14- Civil Ceremony

When is your interview date?

Interview is on the 19th of November! Kind of stressed out, but excited.

I hope the rest of your journey is speedy!

That is in 19 days! Good luck to you guys! I'm sure the VISA will be approved :)

As for us, we'll have to be patient and just wait. He is waiting for his passport which may take 2-3 months, so there's nothing I can do but just be patient.

Where has he applied? I applied at Home Affairs in Pretoria and it was ready in a week. Pretoria is quite fast because the head office is here.

He's actually from Congo and his passport was stolen when he arrived in South Africa, but he hasn't gone anywhere, so hadn't had a reason to get a new one..until he met the woman of his dreams! jk. DRC is full of corrupt politicians and red tape that only move at the smell of money. Apparently there were no more passport appointments at the embassy (in Pretoria) until Jan, but one of the employees squeezed him in (as a favor or so we thought because she didn't get his birth certificate for him when she was in the DRC, but he had paid for it- thought she felt bad) but when he got to the embassy, she pretty said there are no appointments until Jan, but I'm pulling strings to get you in today, so I'll need 500r please. No wonder that place is a hole, but I digress... no one said I had to love his country too.

We sent packet 3 day after you and just called consulate to check and was told booked out 6 weeks now. UGH!!

6 weeks is right around the corner! Don't worry, it'll be here before you know it! 6 weeks means before Christmas, so maybe he'll be here before the new year! What a great way to ring in the new year.

We sent packet 3 day after you and just called consulate to check and was told booked out 6 weeks now. UGH!!

email them or call again. I spoke to a lady yesterday about some questions I had and at the end she asked if she should arrange a date a bit later or if I was fine with the 19th. They may still have a few dates.

I emailed the consulate yesterday because my application arrived on Monday, but I have not heard from the consulate. Is this the correct email: consularjohannesburg@state.gov ? I emailed from my bf's email account, which is not on file- does that make a difference? I wrote down our case number and his name and birthday.

Do I need to just relax and wait for reply?
